87, died July 31,
2010.
He was born and
raised in Detroit,
the son of Max and
Goldie Ravet and
Ravet
the brother of Ethel
Traurig.
He was a fine example of what has
been called "the Greatest Generation!'
Childhood lessons of working hard,
never spending what you don't have
and being grateful for what you earned
were never forgotten by him. He was a
man of integrity, who kept his honor
and his word. Most of all, he was a
man who believed in looking after his
family, friends and community and in
living by example.
He was shaped by four years of his
young adulthood spent fighting in
World War II, where he fought in the
Battle of the Bulge and was a part of
the tank division of the U.S. Army
known as the "Liberator Division:'
which liberated the Dachau concentra-
tion camp. He returned with a great
love for his country, pride in his ser-
vice and a commitment to carry on
with his life.
Mr. Ravet started a business build-
ing tract homes in suburban Detroit.
After many years as a home developer,
he teamed up with partners to develop
apartments and subsidized housing
projects throughout the Detroit Metro
area.
He found the love of his life, Shirley
Stein, in 1948. They were married in
1950. They recently celebrated their
60th wedding anniversary with a
ceremony, renewing their vows before
a sanctuary filled with family and
friends.
Together they raised four children,
Deborah (Hill) of Atlanta, Gary, Lorey
(Baldwin) and Patty (Raphaelson), all
of San Diego. They have five grand-
children, Laurel Hill, Brandon Ravet,
Stephen Ravet, Bryan Raphaelson and
Lillian Baldwin.
The Ravets moved from suburban
Detroit to La Jolla, Calif., in 1984. In
Michigan, their lives were occupied
by work, raising their family and
involvement in a wide variety of civic,
charitable and Jewish organizations.
Moving to California, they continued
community involvement, recently
being honored with the Marla Bennett
Humanitarian Award by the American
Friends of Magen David Adorn.
Mr. Ravet loved sports — golf, ski-
ing, and tennis — and watching the
Detroit Lions and Tigers and then San
Diego Chargers and Padres. Through
the many people he touched, he will
be remembered as a man who was
incredibly generous and someone with
a great sense of humor and a joy for
life.
After fighting Parkinson's disease
for over a decade, Mr. Ravet went to
rest peacefully in his home on July 31,
surrounded by family, with Shirley
by his side. Following a ceremony
at Congregation Beth EI in La Jolla,
Calif., he was laid to rest at EI Camino
Memorial Park on Aug. 3, 2010.

Ariz., Mark Simmer, Laurel and
