rom models strutting their stuff on the catwalk sporting the latest spring
fashions, to makeovers for attendees, a luncheon and a raffle with dozens of
prizes — the third annual "Fashion Show Spectacular" to benefit the Michigan
Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation certainly lived up to its name.
A sold-out crowd of about 225 people attended the May 6
event at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township to
benefit the nonprofit group dedicated to improving the quality of
life for people with inflammatory bowel diseases. Jewish people
of European descent (Ashkenazim) are at higher risk for the
often debilitating chronic digestive disorders, which affect about
1.5 million Americans.
"We raised $45,000 at the event, all of which goes toward
education, support programs like our summer camp for chil-
dren and someday finding a cure for these illnesses:' said Gilda
Hauser of West Bloomfield, the local CCFA chapter's develop-
ment director. "Many advances have been made in research and
new treatments over the last few years."
The fashion show fundraiser was underwritten by Saks Fifth Avenue, the Royal Oak-
based Beaumont Foundation and Aria Facial Care. Beaumont's director of gastroenterol-
ogy, Dr. Mitchell Cappell, spoke during the event.
Wendy Gorge of Franklin and Nanci Kantor of Bloomfield Hills served as this year's
co-chairs.
"Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis impact the lives of so many people of all ages:'
said Kantor. "We're grateful to our sponsors for their generosity and for helping making
the event such a success."
Spotted in the Fashion Show Spectacular crowd were: Linda Jacob, Connie Colman,
Florine Ministrelli, Harriett Fuller, Lois Shevesky, Sue Kaufman, Jean Dubin, Nanci
Rands and Suzanne Tyner, all of Bloomfield Hills; Denise Wayne of Beverly Hills; Beth
Gans of Franklin and Susie Sillman of Birmingham. E
