verything you'd expect to find at a Purim party and
more was on hand Feb. 27 at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek Southfield during a jam-packed Purim
Extravaganza for children and adults. More than 1,000 people
attended the event, which included a fam-
ily Megillah reading and costume party,
carnival games, inflatable bounce houses
and obstacle courses, airbrush tattoos,
slot car racing, downs, jugglers, video
games, food and music.
There was also a traditional Megillah
reading for grown ups followed by music
from The Raven Gallery in Southfield, one
of the country's longest-running coffee
houses dating back to the 1960s.

religious and educational experiences for all our members:' said
Rabbi Aaron Starr of Southfield, who attended with his family.
"The Purim Extravaganza is a perfect example: a Purim shpiel
and huge carnival for the children, a joyful traditional Megillah
reading and an amazing folk concert for the adults"
Many of the school-age participants paraded around in cos-
tumes. Josh Tuckel of West Bloomfield was busy tossing rings
with his daughter, Jillian, 9.
Across the room, Barbara Giles of Novi raced slot cars with
her 6-year-old son, Seth. The fun-filled event was underwritten
by the Sidney Katzman Memorial Purim Fund.
Spotted in the crowd were: Susan and Rabbi Joseph
Krakoff and family of Southfield; Dava and Rabbi Eric Yanoff
and family, Robin and Avi Zallen, and Laura and Rabbi
Jonathan Berger, all of West Boomfield; Brian Hermelin of
Bingham Farms; Suzanne and Corey Jacoby of Birmingham;
and Jennifer and Lowell Friedman, and Karen and Jay
Dubrinsky, all of Huntington Woods. 0
