p

hotojournalist Linda
Solomon of Franklin has
logged many dramatic
career experiences, from showcasing
international celebrities to involving
herself with career mentoring, and
she's about to discuss some of them
at a JVS fundraiser.
Solomon, honor-
ary chair of JVS
Trade Secrets,
which raises criti-
cally needed funds
for the JVS Women
to Work program,
Linda Solomon will be the speaker
Thursday evening,
March 18, at the Townsend Hotel in
Birmingham, where one program
participant will receive the 2010
Women to Work award.
The Women to Work program,
begun more than 27 years ago,
addresses the critical needs of
those who must re-enter the work-
force after significant life-changing
events, such as divorce, family ill-
ness or job loss. It provides career
counseling, inter-
view training and
skills assessment to
women of all ages,
experience levels
and backgrounds.
"We are delighted
that Linda agreed
to be so much a
Barbara
part of this event,"
Nurenberg
says Barbara
Nurenberg, CEO of
JVS. "She wanted to do something
very personal for it. So she came to
JVS, demonstrated her trade-secret

camera techniques to Women to
Work participants and sent them out
to photograph new beginnings. The
resulting photos were so remarkable
that they will be exhibited at Trade
Secrets and available for sale."
Solomon, whose prize-winning
photography has been seen in books
and on television as well as through
newspapers and magazines, directs
her mentoring toward both adults
and young people with camera
projects aimed at developing self-
esteem.
She is author of the recently
released book The Key, Celebrated
People Unlock Their Secrets to Life.
Solomon designed this year's Women
to Work Award in memory of her
mentor and friend Dell Warner, a
three-time Emmy Award-winning
television producer and columnist.
The award will be given to
Barbara Berent of
West Bloomfield,
who benefited from
the Women to Work
program as a young
single mom enter-
ing the job market.
After gaining new
workplace skills,
Barbara
Berent was able to
Berent
find a successful
path in broadcast media sales.
"I am such an advocate for the
JVS Women to Work program, and
I think it's so fitting to present this
award in memory of a woman who
had to face many obstacles herself
to break into television production,"
Solomon says. "Dell Warner was a
pioneer who fought for herself and
