GUIDING LIGHTS
'Spirited' from page 35
will help readers learn to use their
intuitive gifts to find clarity and
move forward with their lives on
their own.
Catching Up
Shortly after Rosen was profiled
in the Jewish News, she moved
to a Royal Oak office. Her rap-
idly increasing word-of-mouth
clientele resulted in a long wait-
ing list to see her. So in addition
to the one-on-one readings she
conducted during her 21/2 years
in Michigan, Rosen began to offer
larger group readings as a way to
reach more people eager to wit-
ness her gift.
Today, Rosen, 33, lives in sub-
urban Denver with her husband,
who handles the business aspects
of her flourishing career. They
have two boys: Jakob, 5, who
shows signs of being psychic "all
the time," says Rosen, explaining
that "most kids are, but get talked
out of their knowing or intuition";
and Sam, who turns 1 later this
month.
Despite her "otherworldly"
career, Rosen says she is "human
like everyone else in that I lose my
patience with my kids, get tired
at the end of the day and need
my breaks." Like many working
moms, "at the end of the week, I
am emotionally exhausted and not
always fun to be around (just ask
my husband!)."
When not working, she enjoys
yoga, working out, running,
spending time with her family and
good friends — and reading and
writing when she has time.
Rosen conducts 20-25 one-
on-one readings a week — in
person or over the phone — for
which there is presently an almost
three-year waiting list. She also
holds audience readings/seminars
around the country (including
Michigan), for up to 900 people.
She donates a part of the pro-
ceeds to charities including Camp
Casey in Michigan, a nonprofit
horse camp for children conquering can-
cer; the American Foundation for Suicide
Prevention; the Tennyson Center for
Children in Denver, which helps abused,
neglected and at-risk kids; the national
Starlight Children's Foundation, an orga-
nization providing entertainment, educa-
tion and family activities for seriously ill
children and their families; and the Susan
G. Komen Race for the Cure breast cancer
walk in Detroit.

"The future is not set in stone," says
Rebecca Rosen. "Life is a co-creative
effort to make the best choices. Each one
of us has the ability to tap into everyday
magic."
Rebecca Rosen kicks off her national
book tour with "A 'Spirited' Evening with
Rebecca Rosen," 7-9 p.m. Monday, Feb.
1, at Rock Financial Showplace-Diamond
Center, 46100 Grand River Ave., in Novi,
during which she will discuss her new
book, conduct a guided group meditation
and connect with Spirit through audi-
ence readings. Books will be available
for purchase, and Rosen will sign cop-
ies. General admission tickets: $30 in
advance/$45 at the door; premium tick-
ets: $60 in advance/$90 at the door. Call

corn to purchase tickets.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, there will be
a Spirited book signing, Q&A and group
reading with Rebecca Rosen at Borders
– Waters Place, 3140 Lohr Road, in Ann
Arbor. No charge. (734) 997-8884.
"Part of my purpose in my lifetime is
to give back," say Rosen, who grew up
with Jewish values integral to her being.
Belonging to Temple Emanuel, a Reform
congregation in Denver, helps Rosen
"feel a connection to God." Her mother
is the executive director of the Jewish
Federation of Omaha, and her brother is
a rabbi in Swampscott, Mass. "Judaism
is something I want to pass down to my
children," she says.
Rosen estimates that 50 percent of
her clients are Jewish (75 percent are
female), and she has found support
for her work in her Denver temple and
through clergy around the country. She
names Rabbi David Baron of Temple
of the Arts in Los Angeles and Cantor
Annie Rose of Temple Beth Emeth in
Ann Arbor among her supporters and
mentions that members of the clergy
have found her meditation tapes to be
helpful in their work.
Her move to Denver in 2005 was
preceded by three years in Los Angeles,
where Rosen also began to develop, by
word of mouth, a celebrity clientele,
including actresses Jennifer Aniston
and Courtney Cox Arquette. "I've read
four- or five-dozen celebrities," says
Rosen, "a handful regularly," including
Wheel of Fortune's Vanna White.
While in L.A., Rosen also began
appearing on TV shows such as the
Rachael Ray Show and the Megan
Mulally Show. She has been approached
about doing her own primetime net-
work TV show and is working with the
production company that produces
Hell's Kitchen with Gordon Ramsey on
FOX.
Right now "I'm not pursuing it,
but I'm open to it," says Rosen, who
believes life unfolds as it is meant to
be. "It has to be the right setup and the
right time."
Rosen attended a big media function
in September with her HarperCollins
publicist. The reaction to her book
was very positive, resulting in a pro-
motional campaign that will include
TV appearances on Good Morning
America, the Early Show, Nightline,
Oprah and other talk shows. She'll be
making many other book-tour appear-
ances nationwide as well (see spirit-
edthebook.com for details).
Prior to the start of the media blitz,
however, Rosen will be in Detroit
to offer her book to her clients in
Michigan before anyone else has the
opportunity to purchase it in stores
— coming back to where it all began.
Here, we ask Rebecca Rosen about
her new book, Spirited: Connect to the
Guides All Around You.
Jewish News: What was your goal in
writing the book?
Rebecca Rosen: I feel it's my responsi-
bility in having this gift to not only share
it with others, but also to empower people
to recognize their own intuition and spiri-
tual guidance all around and within them
... to help them learn how to draw upon
it for guidance, validation and comfort in
times of need.
Too many people are searching outside
of themselves for answers, approval and
love when in fact everything we need is
within us. I'm here to remind those who
are ready to re-remember this truth to go
within and trust their innate wisdom.
JN: Can you explain what you mean
by "Spirit(ed)," define the guides you
are referring to and explain how
they can help us here on Earth?
RR: Spirit is a broad term for nonphysi-
cal energies that reside on another plane
of existence, often referred to as "heaven"
or the "other side."
We all have a guardian angel (a spiritual
being that watches over us, guides and
protects us from birth to death) and many
spirit guides that come and go over the
course of a lifetime (some being ances-
tors whether or not we knew them, some
higher beings we knew before incarna-
tion); and all of these guides serve as
cheerleaders, teachers and mentors from
the other side.
They are always available to us, but due
to the law of free will, we must give them
permission to intervene in order to receive
their gifts and assistance in this life. We do
so through prayer and connect with them
through meditation.
Certain people are more open to it
than others, thus making it easier to feel,
hear and see this nonphysical energy and
guidance. But we all have equal access
to it if we choose to call upon it. Our
intuition (spiritual connection) is like a
muscle; the more we use it, the stronger
it becomes.
JN: How do you determine if you're
actually being spiritually guided or
if it's just wishful thinking on your
part (what you want to hear)?
RR: The best way to know if it's "divine
guidance" is after inviting this outside help
into your life, just follow your instincts
throughout your day. When we operate
from our heart versus our head, we man-
age to stay out of our own way.
For example, go with the very first
thought, feeling, idea, etc., that comes to
you before your mind has a chance to kick
in and overanalyze, judge or interpret the
information.
Spiritual guidance comes from out of
the blue — versus mind thoughts, which
are trailed thoughts.
IN: What do you mean by "setting
intention" for our lives?
RR: Being crystal clear in your mind
and heart on your desires, goals, aspira-
tions for this lifetime, while stating them
to the universe each day through our
thoughts, words and actions. After doing
