THE BEST OF EVERYTHING

Another Winner!

Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame scores again!

S

treamlined precision could have
been the theme at this year's 25th
Anniversary Induction Dinner by
Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame ...
The evening was a sellout with about 400
attending at the Jewish Community Center
in West Bloomfield.
Kosher caterer Paul Kohn was his usual
best for the social's appetizer stations and
sit-down chicken dinner ... Since cake was
dessert, the huge "25"-shaped pastry that
stood majestically in front at Handleman
Hall was given by Paul to Yeshivah Gedolah
of Greater Detroit for luscious gobble-
upping.
The program was precise and well-
organized ... with the new inductees and
participants all being as concise as pos-
sible ... 2009 inductees were Dr. Stuart
Kirschenbaum, Steve Greenberg, Richard
Loewenstein, Dr. Steven Rosen and the late
Kathryn Krickstein Pressel ... together
with Alvin Foon Humanitarian recipient
Emanuel Steward ... Jewish News high
school athletes of the year were Abigail
Cohen, Eric Fishman and Eric Glanz,
with Michelle Lapin receiving the Bill
Hertz Memorial Scholarship ... Eric is
the grandnephew of MJSHF co-founder
and inducted member Mickey Fishman
and grandson of the late inducted mem-
ber Herman Fishman, Mickey's brother
... Presenter was Jewish News publisher
Arthur Horwitz.
Former Michigan boxing commissioner
and past MJSHF president, new inductee
Dr. Stuart Kirschenbaum brought boxer
"bodyguards" as his guests, five former
world champions and two almosts,
strewn at various tables to make certain
that everyone laughed at Stuart's quips
... Amateur photog Martin Kohlenberg
taking pictures and not running out of

film, thanks to digital ...
Class emcee job by WXYZ-TV
sportscaster and inducted
member Don Shane and
introduction speech by MJSHF
president Dan Pasman
Don also did voiceover on the
MJSHF organizational video
and Mike "Stoney" Stone on
the new inductees and school
athletes ... MJSHF Executive
Director David Blatt and com-
munity relations director wife,
Heda Blatt, worked with the staff of David
B. Hermelin ORT Resource Center at the
JCC in producing all the videos ... Frank
Manchel lauding financial adviser Denise
Dunn while bearing news of the day's
market upswing ... The late co-founder
Billy Jacobs and Buddy's Pizza well rep-
resented with Billy's daughter Monni
and hubby Allan Must ... Past President
Howard Gourwitz, Pasman and the late
Al Foon's wife, Shirley Foon Wiss, among
many, thrilled at the large crowd ... New
inductee Richard Loewenstein, JARC's
chief executive officer, a fine speaker ...
Marian Fletcher telling Emanuel Steward
about the great steak and "drink with a
punch" she had at the former Emanuel
Steward Chophouse that took over Don
Vargo's 1940 Chophouse on Jefferson.
Many more kudos to Michigan Jewish
Sports Foundation's and Hall of Fame's
David Blatt and wife, Hedy, for a fine
induction dinner that follows their first-
time excellent Hank Greenberg Memorial
Golf Invitational dinner last year ... as
they look forward to another challenge
that comes with the 2010 Greenberg event
set for June 7, 2010.
DINING IN ITALY was like being

light and airy with sauces that
incorporated the freshest local
ingredients. Our favorite pasta

of locally grown greens, citrus
fruits as well as anchovies.
Entrees were generally fresh
fish such as sea bream simply
prepared with fresh herbs. Our trip was
enhanced by spending time with winemak-
er Benedetto d'Arrigo of Tola Winery, wine
supplier to the Andiamo Restaurant Group
here and of course drinking the wonderful
wines produced in
THOSE DELICIOUS always big in
