and learn program-
ming with the series

And Who Decides?"
Rabbi Aaron Bergman leads the
class noon-1:15 p.m. Thursdays, Oct.
8, 15, 22, 29. $10 per session, including
lunch. All are welcome. Sponsored by the
Adat Shalom Adult Study Commission.

Brush Up On Your Hebrew
The Men's Club of Adat Shalom
Synagogue in Farmington Hills will
sponsor weekly Hebrew literacy class-
es for men and women 7-8:30 p.m.
Mondays beginning Oct. 5. Classes are
at Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit in Farmington Hills in con-
junction with classes from other
Conservative synagogues.
The program offers beginning,
intermediate and new intermediate
"plus" classes, which will focus on
the background of selected prayers in
addition to mastering the prayers of
the Shabbat morning service.
Classes run through Dec. 14 and
Jan. 11-March 1. There is a $50 fee.
Volunteers teach the alef-bet and
work on siddur skills and reading flu-
ency. Don Rudick is chair. RSVP: Adat

Temple Sisterhood Season
Temple Shir Shalom Sisterhood in
West Bloomfield held two events to
kick off its season. On Aug. 7, an out-
door Shabbat service was combined
with a sisterhood installation service.
A sisterhood dinner was held Sept.
8. President Janice Schwartz welcomed
executive board members Esther
Gold, treasurer; Susan Gertner, vice
president social action; and Joyce
Steinberg, recording secretary.
The highlight was a cooking dem-
onstration presented by Zack Sklar
and Justin Kurtz of Cutting Edge
Cuisine.
Shir Shalom Sisterhood is involved
in many mitzvahs including the new
Honey Project, providing for youth
group scholarships to each temple
b'nai mitzvah student; and contribu-
tion of funds to NCJW's Backpack
Project, which provides backpacks and
school supplies to children in need in
Oakland County.

Ongoing mitzvahs that are slated for
the sisterhood are volunteering at Yad
Ezra, the Quilting Club, Care House
and the Sisterhood of Traveling Pans.

Shalom Sisterhood are available to
nonmembers, who are always wel-

friendly Walk to Defeat ALS Saturday,

research and patient care. Register at 9

Both lost loved ones to the disease.
