Hillel-Metro Detroit Board
Hillel of Metro Detroit's Board of
Governors is pleased to announce

Cancer Institute.

Patricia Milner Sachs of Southfield
was founding dean of Survivorship
University. Sachs died of melanoma in
2006. She established the program in
2005 because "no one is born knowing
how to be a cancer survivor."

Selichot: 'Open The Gates'
"Open the Gates" is the theme of
Congregation Beth Ahm's Selichot pro-
gram, 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
A frequent prayer metaphor is that

Jews ask God to open the gates of for-
giveness and mercy to inscribe them in
the Book of Life for the upcoming year.
Featured at the program will be
songs, readings and meditations led by
Rabbi Steven Rubenstein and Jewish
community educator-songleader Beth
Greenapple.
Following at 10:30 p.m. will be a
traditional Selichot service led by Ronn
Nadis and Professor Howard Lupovitch.

'Guided Meditation' Selichot
Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington
Hills will hold a Selichot program and
service 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
At 9:30, Rabbis Aaron Bergman and
Rachel Shere will conduct a "Guided
Meditation on the Sour.'
The presentation will be followed by
Selichot Services with Chazzan Daniel
Gross and piano accompaniment by
Marty Liebman.
Selichot sets the mood for Rosh
Hashanah and Yom Kippur, with peni-
tential prayers and highlights of the
High Holiday liturgy
