FLORENCE NEEDLEMAN, 88, of
Philadelphia, Pa., died May 20, 2009.
She is survived by her chil-
dren, Marcia (Roger) Persin of
West Bloomfield, Allan (Barbara)
Needleman of Huntingdon Valley,
Pa., Martin (Judy) Needleman
of Wynnewood, Pa., and Marvin
(Eydie) Needleman of Bensalem, Pa.;
brother, Sherman (Gertrude) Merle
of Tamarac, Fla.; grandchildren,
Michele Persin, Stephanie (Yaakov)
Erez, Melissa (Andrew) Mitnick,
Jamie (Chris) Newman and Leslie
Needleman; five great-granddaugh-
ters; niece, Norma (Phil) Layne of
West Bloomfield.
She was preceded in death by her
granddaughter Rachael Needleman.
She was the beloved wife of the
late Benjamin Needleman; aunt of
the late Bebe (George) Crandall of
Farmington Hills.
Services were held in Philadelphia.

Hospice of Michigan in Detroit or to

FAY ROTBERG, 87,
of Southfield, died
May 30, 2009.
She is survived
by her son and

dren, Amy and Andrew Spasoff,

Mrs. Rotberg was the beloved wife
of the late Samuel Rotberg.

JOAN SILBERSTEIN, 74, of Ann
Arbor, died March 8, 2009, at the
University of Michigan Hospital
from a heart attack.
She was born on Feb. 13, 1935,
in Detroit, the daughter of Harry
Silberstein and Ruth Koplowitz.

Ms. Silberstein received her bach-
elor of art in English from New York
University and her master of art in
education from Columbia University.
She was extremely gifted in writing,
with the exceptional ability to make
situations and people come alive.
Ms. Silberstein was intelligent,
sensitive and determined. Her works
include books, numerous articles
and a film. She was writing at least
one other novel before she died. She
had lived in New York, California,
Michigan, Arizona and Israel.

and loving friends.
She was the sister of the late
