I rving B. Feldman, 96, of West
Bloomfield, died May 2, 2009.
A graduate of Detroit's
Northwestern High School, he stud-
ied business administration at the
Detroit Institute of
Technology and
then attended the
Detroit College of
Law, graduating
in 1934.
He was a legal
aide to the State
Board of Escheats
from 1937-1942,
when he joined the Army. After
World War II, he went back to work
for the state, becoming an assistant
attorney general in 1948 and depu-
ty public administrator in 1949.
He has been credited with the
collection of more than $3 million
in revenue, which has gone into the
state's primary school fund. He also
inspired the passage of a law which
permits probate judges to freeze
funds willed to Iron Curtain heirs
until there is definite assurance
that they, and not their Communist
governments, will get the money.
As state public administrator, he
worked with 98 public administra-
tors in the state, 12 of whom were
assigned to Wayne County.
Mr. Feldman is survived by his
wife of 67 years, Lillian Feldman;
daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy
and Dr. Ted Schwartzenfeld of West
Bloomfield; Elaine and Mitch Wolf
of West Bloomfield; son, Stanley
Feldman of Florida; grandchildren,
Alissa and Jeremy Stolberg, Debra
Schwartzenfeld and fiance, Michael
Shulman, Erica Schwartzenfeld,
Marni Feldman, Brian Feldman, Evan
Wolf, Michael Wolf and Sloane Wolf;
great-grandchildren, Ava and Rachel
Stolberg, Tyler Shulman; sisters-in-law
and brother-in-law, Carol Bendersky
and Bob Kaufman and Pat Feldman;
nieces, nephews and caregivers.
He was the last surviving child of
the nine children of the late Nathan
and the late Anne Feldman.
Interment at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park. Contributions may
be made to Alzheimer's Association,
Detroit Area Chapter, 20300 Civic
Center Drive, Suite 100, Southfield,
MI 48076, www.alzgmc.org; or to a
charity of one's choice. Arrangements
by Ira Kaufman Chapel.
