uncle of the late Howard Cohn.

PHILIP FINE, 88, of
Bloomfield Hills, died
Feb. 5, 2009.
He was the owner of
Great Lakes Printing
Company in Detroit. Mr.
Fine was a member of
the Fighting Tigers in
Fine
World War II and spent
much of his military
time in China. He was also a WWII hero
pilot and captain in 22nd Air Force in
Burma from 1942-46.
Mr. Fine is survived by his wife, Phyllis
Fine; son and daughter-in-law, Bernie and
Ellen Fine; daughter, Liz Cassab; grand-
children, Stephanie, Michelle, Andrea and
Justin Cassab, Alex and Jennifer Fine;
also survived by Phyllis' children, Robert

MELVYN FOSTER, 83, of West
Bloomfield, died Feb. 4, 2009.
Mr. Foster was a decorated Army vet-
eran of World War II and served in the
European Theater. He assisted in the
liberation of Paris and was wounded in
the Battle of Hurtgen Forest. After the war,
he became a systems manager for Wayne
County; he was one of the first to comput-
erize the court system.
He had been a member of Adat Shalom
Synagogue for more than 45 years and
served as an usher for the High Holiday
services, was a member of the Adult Study
Commission and a past president of the
Adat Shalom Memorial Park Cemetery
Committee for more than 20 years. Mr.
Foster had also served as a treasurer for
the American Wine Tasting Society and as
a volunteer for Channel 56 Public TV for
more than 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Arline Foster
of West Bloomfield; son, David Foster of
Birmingham; daughter, Barbara Anne
Foster of West Bloomfield; brother and
sister-in-law, Malcolm and Sheila Foster of
New York.

She was a vice presi-
dent of National Council
of Jewish Women, a life-
time board member of
Hebrew Free Loan and
a dedicated participant in Recordings for
the Blind.
She is survived by the love of her life,
Stanley B. Friedman, her husband of 66
years; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan
and Lou Slyker of Rapid City, Peggy Daitch
and Peter Remington of Birmingham,
Margery and Bill Lynch of Colorado; son
and daughter-in-law, Rodger Friedman
and Kiki Nelson of New York; grandchil-
dren, Josh and Lisa Daitch, Karen Daitch,
Andrew Slyker, James Lynch; brother and
sister-in-law, Joseph and Molly Levin of
Massachusetts; sister and brother-in-law,
Judith Levin Cantor and Bernard Cantor
of Bloomfield Hills.
Mrs. Friedman was the loving sister
of the late Dr. Herbert Levin and the late
Marjorie Jackson Levin; granddaughter of
the late Rabbi Judah Leib Levin; daughter
of the late Professor Samuel M. Levin and
the late Lillian Keidan Levin.
