MUSICAL GETAWAY
The Birmingham Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra gives the audience time out
from the most popular seasonal standards with the addition of some light clas-
sics in Between the Holidays Special, a program taking place 7 p.m. Sunday,
Dec. 28, at Temple Beth El, 14 Mile and Telegraph roads, in Bloomfield
Township. Charles Greenwald will conduct The Skaters by Waldteufel, excerpts
from Hansel & Gretel by Humperdinck, excerpts from Amahl & the Night
Visitors by Menotti, Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach, "Winter" from
The Four Seasons by Vivaldi, "Noel" from Symphonic Sketches by Chadwick
and 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky. BBSO concertmaster Eun Park and local

CHICAGO CHOREOGRAPHY
Eddy Ocampo, winner of the first choreography competition sponsored by the
Eisenhower Dance Ensemble in Rochester and Birmingham, will have another
premiere at December Dances, a program at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at
the Lake Orion Performing Arts Center, 455 E. Scripps Road. Ocampo, who
began his training at the University of Illinois, has appeared in musical theater
and with the Joel Hall Dancers, River North Chicago Dance Company, Gus
Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago and the Kalamazoo Ballet. An international
choreographer and teacher, Ocampo will have his new work joined with reviv-
als of Eisenhower pieces Moon Dances and Trilogy. The comedic dance Night
Music also will be part of the show arranged by the company that teaches

WITH BELLS ON
It's possible this year to raise money to combat arthritis while being part of
serious competition to form the largest Jingle Bell Run/V4ralk team ever. Jingle
Bell events, held across the country, will have competitive local groups led by
Lila Lazarus, anchor and health reporter at Fox 2 News, and Kenny Berent,
radio personality heard on the JJ & Lynne Morning Show on WCSX-94.7.
The area fundraiser, sponsored by the Michigan Chapter of the Arthritis
Foundation, gets started 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Covington School,
1525 Covington Road, in Bloomfield Hills. Registration begins 7:30 a.m. The
workout, which has people wearing bells tied to their shoelaces, will be fol-
lowed by a chili party at 10 a.m. Participants can enter in a one-quarter mile
Snowman Shuffle for kids, a 5K Run/Walk/Hand Cycle/Wheelchair Race or a
10 K Run Only/Hand Cycle/Wheelchair Race with fees starting at $10.

EARLY CELEBRATION
The New Year's Eve partying gets an early start in Birmingham so that
families with young children can have some fun together. Puppets, music
and magic headline shows 4-10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at four First
Night Birmingham locations: the Baldwin Public Library, 300 W. Merrill;
Birmingham Historical Museum, 556 W. Maple; First Church of Christ
Scientist, 191 N. Chester; and First Baptist Church, 300 Willits. Each place
will have a special show planned to allow time for returning home before the
strictly adult events get into full gear at nearby nightspots. $10 adults; free for
