grooming services; and locally-owned
Family of Pets (44125 W. 12 Mile Rd.,
#121, 248-305-7008) in Novi's Fountain
Walk, where, in addition to selling pet
products, it plays host to Create-A-Pet
parties where children can create per-
sonalized stuffed animals.
For serious furniture shopping, few
strips in the Metro area can match the
concentration of stores in the shadow
of Twelve Oaks selling sofas, dining
tables and bedroom sets for liter-
ally any decor. Here you'll find Ethan
Allen (42845 12 Mile Rd., 248-380-
7900), The Baby's Room (27782 Novi
Rd., 248-380-3510), La-Z-Boy (27754
Novi Rd., 248-349-3700), Hagopian
(43223 12 Mile Rd., 248-449-RUGS),
Value City Furniture (43620 W. Oaks
Dr., 248-347-8100), Great Indoors
(44075 W. 12 Mile Rd., 248-679-
1000) and local retail kings Art Van
(27775 Novi Rd., 248-348-8922) and
Gorman's (27800 Novi Rd., 248-344-
0880), the latter housing a Stickley
Furniture Gallery — Gorman's is
Metro Detroit's exclusive Stickley
retailer — on its second floor.
Lastly, relax at home after a day of
serious shopping with a bounty of
prepared foods, or the ingredients to
make your own if you've the gump-
tion — from Hiller's (425 N. Center
St., 248-344-4001) or the Hamilton
Street Market at Little Italy (227
Hutton St., 248-348-0575).

(118 W. Main St., 248-347-1642) and

Dancing Eye Gallery (101 N. Center,

248-449-7086), where fine art and illu-
minating conversation are the order of
the day. Adults and children can even
release their own creative juices at one

of Awakening's art classes.
If dinner and a movie is more your
thing, you might consider dinner and
a live show at Genitti's Little Theatre
(108 E. Main St., 248-349-0522).
And when the kids tire of the Wii,
they're sure to be charmed by one of
the productions staged at the Marquis
Theater (135 E. Main St., 248-349-
8110), or they may discover a hidden
talent during one of its theatrical
camps and workshops held through-
out the summer.

ENTERTAINMENT/
HANGOUT

The words "bland" or "boring" are
not part of the vernacular in Novi or
Northville. From the people-watching
while shopping to the free concerts in
the heart of Northville, there's no short-
age of options once the stores close.
Check out Hollywood's latest block-
busters lighting up the screens at the
Novi Town Center 8 (26085 Novi
Town Center Dr., 248-334-0014) and
Emagine Theater (44425 W. 12 Mile
Rd., 248-319-0171), or echo the laughs
nearby at Detroit's comedy theater
extraordinaire, The Second City
(42705 Grand River, 248-348-4448) at
Andiamo.
Lazy summer nights can be spent
lounging at the Band Shell (www.
downtownnorthville.com) in downtown
Northville for free outdoor concerts.
There's even a dedicated musical series,
Tunes on Tuesday, for the young ones.

EVENTS

From a seasonal Farmer's Market to
art shows and home tours, the city of
Northville (www.downtownnorthville.
corn) and its chamber of commerce
(www.northville.org) fill the calendar
with an outstanding array of special
events and programs. Likewise, the
city of Novi (www.ci.novi.mi.us ) and
its chamber of commerce (www.novi-
chamber.com) promise year-round,
eclectic programming. 111
