n the morning of Sept. 14,
donors Gloria and Edward Meer
gathered with their children,
grandchildren and supporters of the
Lubavitch Cheder in Oak Park to formally
dedicate the school's Meer Family Cheder
Annex.
The Meers of Bloomfield Hills donated
close to $1 million to renovate the 11,000-
square-foot school building and add
another 3,000 square feet of classroom
and office space.
There are 120 students in grades preK-8
attending classes in the building; the near-
by boys' school, also in Oak Park, has 125
students. The Meers handed out chocolate
treats to each of the Cheder children in
honor of the occasion.
As chair of the program, Dr. Noah Levi
of Southfield called on Rabbi Daniel
Moskowitz, director of Lubavitch of
Illinois, to address the crowd.
During Edward Meer's remarks, he
expressed his joy at being able to help
such a great cause. "I was especially hon-
ored to meet with students of the High
School Division who come from 15 differ-
ent countries;' he said, calling it a sign of
the global impact that his family's support
of the Lubavitch Cheder will have.
