An Open Letter to the Jewish Community

Barack Obama is a True Friend of Israel

Scare tactics won't work

Just before Rosh Hashanah an anonymous group identifying themselves as the
Republican Jewish Coalition began financing and publishing a series of ads smearing
Barack Obama. This smear campaign linking Barack Obama to Ahmadinijad, Ayatollah
Khomeini and Pat Buchanan are intended to scare the Jewish community, rather than to
inform us. These vicious ads are appalling. For Jews to engage in tactics so often used
with devastating effects against us is particularly outrageous.

For the record, Barack Obama has been a consistent and strong friend of Israel in both
the Illinois and U.S. Senates evidenced by the 100% rating given his record by AIPAC.
The head of Obama's campaign is Jewish. Obama has far more Jews in policy advising
positions than John McCain and his speeches to Jewish and non-Jewish groups alike
have made it clear that he views "the security of Israel to be sacrosanct."
(AIPAC, June 2008)

These advertisements, published by the Republican Jewish Coalition, are lies and they
are counterproductive. Israel needs every ally it can get in the office of the President
and in the U.S. Congress.

We say enough is enough.

We believe that Jewish organizations should never engage in these kinds of attacks.
We call on the Republican Jewish Coalition to immediately stop running these
slanderous advertisements.
