Antiques dealers and lovers raise funds
to battle Alzheimer's.

BY ROBIN SCHWARTZ I PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANGIE BARN

In a gallery filled with old memories
in the form of 19th-century furniture
and decorative art — including mir-
rors, lighting and more — hundreds of
antiques lovers gathered for an event
to fight a memory-robbing illness.
More than 250 people took part in
Antiquing for Alzheimer's June 5 at Judy
Frankel Antiques in Troy, co-hosted by
a who's who of area designers, includ-
ing Phyllis Canvasser, Gloria Colton
and Jill Schumacher. A cocktail party,
hors d'oeuvres, music, door prizes and
a private sale benefited the Alzheimer's
Association. "As my generation gets
older, as our parents age, it begins to
affect more and more of us," said Judy
Frankel. Participants browsed through
her collection of unique, handpicked
items from Europe; a portion of each
sale was donated. Each guest also
was treated to an antique appraisal by
David McCarron from PBS' Antiques
Roadshow. "For a first-time event, the
turnout was unbelievable," Frankel said.
"All of us were just taken aback by the
response."
