Tamarack Eagle Scout
Displays Leadership
Birmingham Groves High School stu-
dent Henry Moss completed his Boy
Scout Eagle Leadership Project at a
place he credits for providing him with
much of his own leadership skills.
The project, consisting of enhancing
four campfire areas at Camp Maas,
Tamarack Camps' resident camp, will
benefit the camp's youngest camper
groups.
"Tamarack Camps has given so
much to me:' said Moss. "I feel it was
appropriate to give back:'
Moss planned the project over four
months, securing the necessary fund-
ing to pay for the costs by collecting
cans and donations. The project was
completed May 2 when he, other
Scouts and their parents got together
at the camp to do the work.
"Henry's initiative on this project
reveals much about what we're trying
to instill in our community's youth:'
said Jonah Geller, Tamarack's execu-
tive director. "We're grateful for his
contribution to our agency and the
impact the project will have on our
campers this summer and numerous
summers down the road!'
Moss, involved with Tamarack
Camps basically since birth as his
mother would bring him to camp
during her shift as a camp nurse, is
spending this summer at Tamarack's

Henry Baskin
receive the 2008
Dream Catchers Award from Variety,
the Children's Charity at its third
annual Dream Catchers event. The
black-tie fundraiser takes place at 6
p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Townsend
Hotel, Birmingham.
Proceeds will allow local children
to further their dreams while sup-
porting Variety's mission of providing
vital medical and therapeutic services,
recreational facilities and educational
opportunities to children with special
needs.
"Mr. Baskin has dedicated so much
to Variety over the years, it's an honor
to present him with the 2008 Dream

Aish Hosts Israeli Pop Star
Aish Huntington Woods will host
the annual Shabbat in the Park with
Israeli singer Yehudah Katz on Friday,
June 13, in Scotia Park in honor of
Israel at 60.
Katz, of Safed, Israel, and lead singer
of pop Israeli group Reva L'Sheva, will
perform at the outdoor pre-Shabbat
concert. The concert will start at 6
p.m. to be followed by Shabbat ser-
vices led by Katz.
There will be an open-tent Shabbat-
catered dinner. Cost per family is $50
or $18 per person; call the Aish office to
order tickets, (248) 327-3579, or reserve
online www.aishinthewoods.com .
for many children throughout our
communities:'
"The concept of the event comes
from the Native American legend of
dream catching;' said event co-chair
Mickey Shapiro. "Parents encouraged
children to open their minds to the
power of dreams and would hang a
small circular weaving called a dream
catcher over them while they slept.
It was believed to capture the good
dreams while allowing the bad or evil
visions to pass by"
Eight children throughout the
region who are overcoming physical,
social or emotional challenges will
share their dreams through photos at
the event. In preparation, each child
was given a disposable camera and
assigned to take pictures that captured
their greatest hopes and dreams. Their
encouraging images will be displayed
during a presentation with renowned
local photographer Linda Solomon,
who with Rob T. Allen, created the
concept of the event.
Attendees will enjoy a performance
by Michael Feinstein of the one-man
Broadway show, "Isn't it Romantic."
Tickets to Variety fundraiser range
from $250 to $500.
A pre-event party for attendees at
the $500 level will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday May 21, at Meadow Brook
Hall, Rochester.
For tickets: (248) 258.5511.
