EVELYN PEVOS, 93,
of West Bloomfield,
died May 10, 2008.
She worked as a
salesperson in the
children's clothing
industry for over
30 years and then

with the Department
of Aging at Jewish
Federation until she was 90 years
old. She was an active volunteer at
Hechtman and Fleischman residences
and the Danto Health Care Center.
Mrs. Pevos is survived by sons and
daughters-in-law, Richard and Caryl
Pevos of West Bloomfield, Laurence and
Joanne Pevos of Commerce; daughter,
Deborah Silverman of Farmington
Hills; grandchildren, Joy and Jeffrey
Alekman, Julie and Michael Solomon,
Edward Pevos and fiancee, Heidi Scher,
Jeff Silverman, Lori and Brian Donovan;
great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Dean
Alekman, Sarah and Jacob Solomon;
brothers and sisters-in-law, Newton

She was the beloved wife of the late
Edward Pevos; cherished sister and
sister-in-law of the late Adele Berlin, the

Leo and the late Estelle Berlin, the late
Doris Berlin and the late Adele Berlin.

BARBARA "BARB" PHILKA, 56, of
West Bloomfield, died May 17, 2008.
She was a native of the Cleveland,
Shaker Heights area, and came to
Michigan to attend MSU. She received a
teaching degree in math and science but

delayed her teaching career by living in
Aspen.
An avid downhill skier and moun-
tain climber, Mrs. Philka worked for
the Aspen Ski company. Moving to the
Oakland County area, she was hired by
the West Bloomfield School District,
where she spent her 28-year teaching
career. She coached the Ski Team and
restored and revitalized the student
activities to include hundreds of stu-
dents and attain national recognition.
During the summers, she worked for the
Fresh Air Society at Camp Tamarack,
where she met her beloved husband,
Marshall.
Mrs. Philka was instrumental in ini-
tiating the Eastern, Western and Alaska
trips, where she was fondly known as
"Ma Feldman". Loving the challenges of
nature, she hiked the Alps and the Gold
Rush Trail in Skagway, Alaska.
She was loved by her students and
staff and she was known as an out-
standing teacher with an impeccable
work ethic and a deep heart for chil-
dren.
Mrs. Philka is survived by her beloved
husband, Marshall Philka; daughter,
Jordan Philka of West Bloomfield; sister
and brother-in-law, Elaine Feldman and
Norb Tatro of Chicago; mother-in-law,
Laura Philka; many other loving family
members and friends.
Mrs. Philka was the dear daughter-in-
law of the late David Philka.
Interment at the Temple Israel
Gardens of Beth El Memorial Park

BERNARD PORVIN, 72, of Palm
