aseball Commissioner Bud
Selig will be honored at
the Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation's 18th annual Hank
Greenberg Memorial Golf Invitational
June 2 at Tam O'Shanter Country Club
in West Bloomfield.
Selig will receive the Hank Greenberg
Memorial Award. He's a good friend of
son Steve Greenberg, the deputy base-
ball commissioner under Fay Vincent
and an honorary invitational chairman.

The invitational has generated more
than $900,000 for cancer treatment
over the years. With a goal of raising
$150,000 this year for the new uro-
logic oncology procedure suite at the
Lawrence and Idell Weisberg Cancer
Treatment Center in Farmington Hills,
the total could climb over the $1 mil-
lion mark. The Weisberg Center is part
of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer
Institute.
"We know these are challenging eco-
nomic times for the Detroit area, but we
also know that Detroiters are generous
and loyal;' said new MJSF executive
director Laura Stern, who has an inter-
esting tie to Selig.
"I'm a Milwaukee native. Bud Selig
has lived across the street from my par-
ents for perhaps the last 35 years:' Stem
said. "I often see Bud walking through
the neighborhood when I visit home
Boston Globe columnist and ESPN
personality Bob Ryan also will be hon-
ored during the dinner portion of the
invitational.
Stern hopes the invitational is a sell-
out of 144 golfers. Each foursome will
play 18 holes with a celebrity. There
are several sponsorship opportunities,
ranging from the $1,250 "Home Run"
to the $50,000 "Hall of Fame Presenting
Sponsor" For information, contact Stern

No Runs, No Hits
Allison Korotkin had quite a three-
day stretch for the Allegheny (Pa.)
College softball team.
On March 30, the sophomore pitcher
from Birmingham threw a no-hitter in
Allegheny's 4-0 victory over Thiel in
the nightcap of a doubleheader. It was
the 23rd no-hitter in Allegheny history,
but only the fourth in the last 12 years.
Korotkin helped her cause with an RBI
single.
Korotkin swatted her first home run
of the season April 1 in Allegheny's 11-
2 victory over Oberlin in the opener of
a twin bill. Besides earning the pitching
victory in Allegheny's 18-2 nightcap
win, the Detroit Country Day School
grad had a walk, two singles, a double
and three RBI.
