Seders In Birmingham

Birmingham has been selected as one
of only 20 locations in the country to
host "Passover Across America" com-
munity learning seders.
The seders will be being held on
both nights of the holiday, Saturday,
April 19, and Sunday, April 20,
led by Rabbi Boruch Cohen of the
Birmingham-Bloomfield Chai Center,
1578 Lakeside Drive. Both seders will
start after nightfall, at 9:45 p.m.
"Passover Across America" is spon-
sored by the National Jewish Outreach
Program (NJOP) of New York, which
awards advertising grant money to
synagogues selected to host seders.
The NJOP is a Jewish adult educa-
tion organization founded in 1987. It
has offered programs such as "Read
Hebrew America;' and "Shabbat Across
America;' along with courses in basic
Judaism and Jewish history.
"Passover Across America" seders
are conducted entirely in English. The
Birmingham seder is being promoted
as an "interactive experience in a fam-
ily atmosphere:'
The cost is $36 per adult, $18 per
teenager and $12 per child. RSVP:

organization, will host a parent
informational meeting on the Jewish
Educational Loan Service (JELS) and
additional financial aid options for
college students 7 p.m., Tuesday, April
15, at the JVS Rose and Sidney Diem
building, 29699 Southfield Road in
Southfield.
Marvin Berman, JELS coordinator,
will discuss how to apply for an inter-
est-free loan offered through JELS.
He will also address the availability of
financial assistance through state, fed-
eral, institutional and private sources.
Although the meeting will be directed
toward parents, students are welcome
