Customers love the subtle, yet noticeable improve-
ment to their appearance after a treatment at Radi-
ance Medspa in Birmingham. Medical director Dr. Gina
Gora-Dworkin loves when they return to share compli-
ments.
"'You look relaxed, — and "'you look 10 years young-
er,"' are typical comments from friends and fam-
ily," said Gora-Dworkin, a family medicine physician.
"People know she looks better but can't tell what was
done."
Gora-Dworkin, a graduate of Michigan State Univer-
sity Medical School, also works part-time for St. John
Health System in Detroit. Her family - husband Dr.
Howard Dworkin and two sons - belongs to the Jewish
Parents Institute.
Prior to opening Radiance, "I had been doing cos-
metic-type procedures for some time, such as inject-
ing Botox© to smooth out wrinkles, and mole and le-
sion removal," Gora-Dworkin said.
She enjoyed the "girlfriend Botox parties" she do-
nated for school fundraisers and concluded that "a
medical office did not have the kind of atmosphere

people wanted for these procedures."
"Salons and spas are geared toward customer ser-
vice, and they make people feel welcome," Gora-Dwor-
kin said. "I wanted to offer the same things that are
available in a doctor's office, but with a more relaxed
setting."
Radiance's licensed, professional staff includes
three aestheticians, two massage therapists, a cos-
metologist and a master pedicurist. Spa director Teri
Williams also does marketing.
First-time customers get a complimentary skin
analysis. The 3D photo series shows their age spots,
pore size, redness, skin damage and more. Next
comes developing a treatment plan, also referred to
as a "wish list."
The spa services enhance appearance and reduce
stress and tension. They include: Intense Pulse Light
skin-rejuvenation and hair-removal treatments, inject-
able cosmetic and fillers, chemical peels, microderm-
abrasion, body scrubs and wraps, classic European
facials, massages, manicures and pedicures.
Radiance offers the Obagi©, Skin Medica©,

Glytone© and DeCleor© skincare lines. "Our prod-
ucts are medical grade - they deliver what they prom-
ise," Gora-Dworkin said.
She recommends the Edge Hydra Facial MD, com-
bining exfoliation with deep-cleansing. Skin is infused
with antioxidants, nutrients and moisturizers. The se-
rum-based resurfacing system provides topical deliv-
ery of Skin Medica's TNS Recovery System, increasing
skin collagen and elasticity.
Try the "Busy Professional Quick Fix" series, which
offers a glycolic peel, 30-minute massage and ex-
press facial over three weeks, or arrange a "Day at
the Spa."
"In honor of Valentine's Day, our special package
through February features a chocolate oil massage and
a floral facial for $150 per person," Gora-Dworkin said.
Radiance Medspa is open 9 a.m. Monday through
Saturday at 373 S. Old Woodward Avenue in Birming-
ham. It closes 5 p.m. Monday and Friday, 8 p.m. Tues-
day-Thursday and 4 p.m. Saturday. For information,
call (248) 723-7188, or visit www.radiancebirmingham.
