asian fusion
On the heels of the success of its Farmington Hills location on Orchard Lake
Road in Farmington Hills, which opened in August, Pei Wei Asian Diner
will be serving its freshly prepared dishes from China, Japan, Korea, Thailand
and Vietnam at its fourth Metro Detroit spot in the Novi Town Center, slated
to open this month. With a casually hip decor, signature red floors and exotic
aromas emanating from sizzling 600-degree woks, Pei Wei (pronounced Pay
Way) combines high-quality cuisine and a fun atmosphere with affordable
(ranging from $2.7549) selections. On the menu: classic Chinese favorites
as well as Asian specialties such as Vietnamese Chicken Salad Rolls, Minced
Chicken with Cool Lettuce Wraps (a customer favorite at Pei Wei's parent
restaurant, P.F. Chang's China Bistro) and Asian Coconut Curry (above), plus
a gluten-free menu. Diners place their orders at the counter, serve their own
drinks and take a seat while food is made to order and brought hot from
the wok to the table. Peiwei.com

four-legged FUN
Once former stay-at-home mom and dog-lover
Lisa Pullman's three children had grown, her
need to nurture naturally turned toward pets. So
last year, Pullman — who has two Havanese at
home — opened the upscale Shaggy Chic
Boutique, where she offers everything pets
— and the people who love them — could
need or want, including furniture, car seats,
organic foods and clothing (like this Shayna
Punim tee, left; $22). 248-594-5599

CULTURE CLUB
There's a new kid in the Royal Oak neighborhood: Fivel5 offers an assortment of hard-to-find literature,
music, movies and gifts, all wrapped up in a funky '60s Left Bank vibe. Visitors can sip coffee and munch on
specialty candies and pastries before browsing a state-of-the-art video kiosk, magazines and newspapers from
all over the world, greeting cards, jewelry, artist showings and more. Says Gary Baglio, who co-owns the
boutique with William Zipp, "We want Fivel5 to work as a hub, a creative clubhouse where people can see
and feel our aesthetic." (248) 5 15-255 1;five15.net
