JOYCE NEWLANDER ABRAMSON,
former Detroiter of Boca Raton, Fla.,
died Oct. 5, 2007.
She is survived by her husband
of 51 years, Leslie; daughters, Linda
Rada of Israel, Sandie Abramson
of Florida; grandchildren, Ro'ee
(Sivan), Maya and Amit, all of Israel.

Bravery Remembered
During the annual convention in Charleston, S.C., the Jewish War
Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary paid homage to nine fireman who had
lost their lives during in the past year. The men placed a wreath at the
site of the fire station and the women presented the fire department
with a plaque. Shown are an unidentified member of the JWV national
office, Charleston Fire Chief Rusty Thomas and State of Michigan JWV
Commander Jerry Order.

Zionist Honorees
The Zionist Organization of America-Michigan Region held a tribute
brunch in honor of Ann Newman and Aliza Nivy for their notable contri-
butions to the community and Jewish education and their dedicated ser-
vice to the State of Israel. They will receive the highest citation of merit,
the Justice Louis D. Brandeis Award, at the annual ZOA Balfour event
on Nov. 7 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. ZOA President
Sheldon Miller; Saul Waldman, chairman of the executive committee; and
Beverly Baker, executive vice president; introduced the recipients. Shown
are Ann Newman of Bloomfield Hills, Sheldon Miller of Orchard Lake and
Aliza Nivy of Bloomfield Hills.

She was the beloved wife of the late
Joseph Abrin.

HELEN M. BLACKSTONE, 95, of Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla., died Sept. 28, 2007.
She was born in Budapest,
Hungary, and came to the United
States when she was 7; she grew
up in Detroit. After her marriage
to Daniel Blackstone, she was a
businesswoman for over 50 years in
wholesale perfumes and cosmetics
in Englewood, N.J. She prided her-
self in being in business for herself
while most women were housewives.
Mrs. Blackstone is survived by her
beloved children, Gerald Blackstone
(Michael Skaar) and Dr. Michael
Blackstone (Linda Projansky);
grandchildren, Charles (Alpana),
Elissa and Maya; beloved brother
and sister-in-law, Eddie and Lenore
Mitteldorf; nieces and nephews,
Shelly Kraft, Carol Benderoff (Dr.
Bruce), Professor Milton Cohen
(Florence), Gail Gettleson (Frank).
She was the beloved wife of the
late Daniel Blackstone; sister and
sister-in-law of the late Bertha
Cohen and the late Phillip Cohen.
Services were held at Star of
David in Ft. Lauderdale.

San Diego, Calif.,
died Sept. 25,
2007.
She is survived
by her loving
partner of 73

years, Albert
Epstein; children,

sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn
and Harold Barman; Epstein beloved
grandchildren, Diane and Craig
Isaacs of Farmington Hills and Julie

Bloomfield Hills, died Oct. 3, 2007.
She was a schoolteacher, paralegal,
legal assistant and gourmet chef.
Mrs. Gettleson is survived by

Gettleson of Waterford, Robin
Gettleson and Brian Whitten of San
Francisco; son and daughter-in-

She was the beloved daughter of
the late Phillip and the late Bertha
Cohen.
