Bravery Remembered During the annual convention in Charleston, S.C., the Jewish War Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary paid homage to nine fireman who had lost their lives during in the past year. They will receive the highest citation of merit, the Justice Louis D. Brandeis Award, at the annual ZOA Balfour event on Nov. 7 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. She is survived by her daughter and son-in- law, Gail and Abrin Thomas Klein of Rochester Hills; son and daughter-in-law, Marty Abrin and Ilene Silverman of Oak Park; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Shanna) Klein, Rebecca Klein, Joseph Abrin, Sara Abrin and Rebecca Abrin; great- granddaughter, Melia Klein. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Abrin. She was born in Budapest, Hungary, and came to the United States when she was 7; she grew up in Detroit. After her marriage to Daniel Blackstone, she was a businesswoman for over 50 years in wholesale perfumes and cosmetics in Englewood, N.J. She prided her- self in being in business for herself while most women were housewives. Mrs. Blackstone is survived by her beloved children, Gerald Blackstone (Michael Skaar) and Dr. Michael Blackstone (Linda Projansky); grandchildren, Charles (Alpana), Elissa and Maya; beloved brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Lenore Mitteldorf; nieces and nephews, Shelly Kraft, Carol Benderoff (Dr. Bruce), Professor Milton Cohen (Florence), Gail Gettleson (Frank). She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel Blackstone; sister and sister-in-law of the late Bertha Cohen and the late Phillip Cohen. Services were held at Star of David in Ft. Lauderdale. ESTHER EPSTEIN, 97, of San Diego, Calif., died Sept. 25, 2007. She is survived by her loving partner of 73 Epstein years, Albert Epstein; children, Larry (Sara) and Robert Epstein; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Harold Barman; Epstein beloved grandchildren, Diane and Craig Isaacs of Farmington Hills and Julie and Chip Staley; dear great-grand- children, Danielle and Brooke Isaacs, Ian and Kyle Zaback; loving nieces and nephews.
