The height of fashion? Spending money to raise money for local chari-
ties. Two chic shops — Ralph Lauren and Max Mara — at the Somerset
Collection in Troy recently hosted private shopping events, bringing in dollars
for some worthy organizations. Dozens of people shopped at the Max Mara
store May 3, during which 15 percent of all sales went
to the Royal Oak—based cancer-support group Gilda's
Club. And on May 10, some 200 shoppers converged on
Ralph Lauren, raising about $25,000 for the Greater
Michigan Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. "It's
for a good cause and there are a lot of people with
relatives who have Alzheimer's," said event co-organizer
Rhonda Ran of Bloomfield Hills. "The money raised goes

toward research and also helps fund support groups and
other services for families." El
