Yom HaZiKaron Events
Yom HaZikaron commemorates
Israel's fallen heroes and victims of
terror. Local events include:
• A service 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April
22, at the Jewish Community Center
in West Bloomfield. An officer from
the Israel Defense Forces will speak.
The event is sponsored by the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.

• A program will be held at 7:30
p.m. Monday, April 23, at the JCC in
Oak Park. It is run by Kollel Torah
MiTzion with sponsorship from
Congregation Beth Shalom, JCC,
Temple Emanu-El, Yeshivat Akiva,
Young Israel Council of Metropolitan
Detroit, Young Israel of Oak Park
and Young Israel of Southfield.
Charge is $10 per person; $36 per

Washtenaw Israel Fest
On Sunday, April 29, 2-6 p.m., the
Washtenaw Jewish community will
gather at the Eastern Michigan
University Student Center to mark
Israel's 59th year at Celebrate Israel 3.
It is the third collaborative effort
of nearly 20 Ann Arbor Jewish
organizations under the leader-
ship of the Jewish Federation of
Washtenaw County. Co-chaired by
Marc Bernstein and Shirit Kamil,
the planning committee is from
Ann Arbor Orthodox Minyan, Ann
Arbor Reconstructionist Havurah,
Beth Israel Congregation, Jewish
Cultural Society Hadassah, Jewish
Community Center, Jewish Family
Services, Keshet Ann Arbor, Temple
Beth Emeth, Young Judaea, Habonim
Dror, EMU Hillel, U-M Hillel and the
Israeli Community of Ann Arbor.
The theme is "Kikar Safra: A
Celebration of Jewish Music and Art
in Honor of Israel Independence
Day:'
Neil Alexander and his Klezmer
Fusion Band will play. Other par-
ticipating groups include Temple
Beth Emeth's Shir Hadash High
School Band and Kol Haley choir.
Participants can try Israeli karaoke
and Israeli dancing with instruction.
Jewish art will be on display; chil-
dren can participate in a hands-on
art project with glass artists Dani
Katsir and Gail Kaplan.
U-M Hillel's chef, Emil Boch, will
prepare Israeli-inspired food.
