T

he chic, urban confines of a Royal Oak loft provided a trendy yet homey set-
ting for a young adult bar night. About 30 people mixed and mingled inside
a furnished model condominium at the Center Street Lofts during an event
called "Lounge at the Lofts" sponsored by the Young Adult Division of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
Partygoers sipped cocktails, ate desserts and toured the modern living space, com-
plete with hardwood floors, exposed ductwork and multi-story windows. They also
learned about the YAD Summer Israel Mission, planned for June 25-July 5.
"My first YAD mission to Israel was in 2000; I led the trip the following four years
because it was so amazing:' said YAD president-elect Brad "Bubba" Urdan of West
Bloomfield. "It's really a life-changing opportunity"
For first-time mission goers, the cost of this year's trip is $1,500, thanks to a gener-
ous subsidy from Federation. Eric Goodman of Birmingham will lead the local group.
"Every day involves seeing and experiencing new things;' Goodman said. "At night,
it's a chance to socialize and meet other young Jewish adults from across the country"
Added Julie Eisman of Waterford, "I went on this mission in 1999 and I've been to
Israel five times — but I'm going again this summer because I just love this trip."
Spotted lounging at the lofts at the March 22nd event were: Julie Marx of
Bloomfield Hills; Marni Raitt, Lauren Friedman, and Dayna Gold, all of West
Bloomfield; Rachel Victor and Phil Okun, both of Huntington Woods; Jodi Millman
of Troy; Ben Konstatin and Jason Chess, both of Royal Oak; and Brian Satovsky and
Sara Zonder, both of Birmingham. Singer Development Co. and Sachse Construction
donated the space for the party. 1-7
