recognized Dr.
Nelson Hersh,
the donor of the
largest and longest-
term pledge to the
Foundation for
Excellence-Walled
Lake Schools. Three
years ago, Dr. Hersh
agreed to underwrite the full cost of
student planners for all students in
all four middle schools in the district
for the 2005-06 school year. That gift
totaled $15,000. This school year, he
agreed to sponsor planners at Western
High School, and when the 2007-08
school year begins in the fall, Dr.
Hersh will also provide underwriting
for Central and Northern high schools.
He is now providing $24,000 a year for
10 years.

ored in Las Vegas
with a Retail Council
Goldstone
appreciation award
by NAI Global, a
network of commercial real estate ser-
vice providers. The award recognizes
Goldstone's leadership as chairperson
of the NAI Retail Council during
2006. Under his direction, the coun-
cil designated regional directors in
the Northeast, Southeast, Southwest,
Central and Western regions and NAI
Global's retail brokers closed transac-
tions on more than 962,500 square
feet of property.

Chayet specializes in deep-tissue mas-
sage, foot reflexology and acupressure.
Kimberly Lemkin, a senior at
West Bloomfield High School and
a Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit graduate, has been awarded
the Scholar Recognition Award by
the University of Michigan. It is a full
tuition scholarship for four years.
Ruth Tsoffar, associate professor of
women's studies and comparative lit-
erature at the University of Michigan,
has recently been honored. Her book,
The Stains of Culture: An Ethno-
Reading of Karaite Jewish Women,
was chosen as a finalist for a National
Jewish Book Award in the category of
Women's Studies.
Emily Rosberg
of West Bloomfield
has been selected by
the West Bloomfield
Optimist Club for a
Youth Appreciation
Week citation for
her involvement

Metropolitan Detroit.
Yehudis Tawil was
named a finalist in
the 2007 National
Merit Scholarship
Program. The award
goes to the top
15,000 students
nationwide for
Tawil
academic achieve-
ment based on
PSAT scores (less than 1 percent of
the more than 1.4-million high school
seniors who take the standardized test
become finalists). Yehudis is a senior
at Yeshiva Beth Yehudah's Beth Jacob
School for Girls in Oak Park. She is
this year's school yearbook editor. She
is active in Friendship Circle and her
school's Chesed community service
program. Yehudis was a finalist in this
year's JCC Jewish Book Fair essay con-
test. She plans to attend Bnos Chava
Seminary in Jerusalem this fall and
hopes to pursue a career in medicine.
Yehudis is the daughter of Dr. Robert
and Susan Tawil of Southfield.
