SALUTES ANOTHER
HOSPICE HERO
Merle Schwartz has gone above and beyond the
call of volunteer duty time and again during her adult life.
Yet nothing has touched the retired educational consultant
more than the hands-on work she does with the terminally
ill through the Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network.
"Nobody should have to ever be alone," she says. "Many
of my patients are lonely and isolated and just want
someone to listen to them."
Merle enjoys most meeting patients and hearing about
their lives. "I have learned so much from them. I wish
there was more time so I could learn more."

MYRON "MIKE" SANFORD
HOMER of Laguna Woods, Calif.,
died Feb. 15, 2007.
Mike was born the eldest child of
Jack and Rose Homer, April 9, 1936, in
Detroit. He moved to the Los Angeles
area in 1979 where he continued to
work as a furniture sales representative
and eventually opened his own store,
PaceSetter Plus.
Mike was a gifted salesman and a
man of the highest integrity. He was
known for his easy-going manner and
made many lasting relationships, both
within the furniture industry as well as
his immediate community.
In 1999, he moved to Lake Forrest,
Calif., and took on the responsibility
of becoming "the best grandfather!'
He was deeply committed to his three
daughters and they will forever have a
tremendously loving and special bond.
He was very proud of his family and
grandchildren and loved spending time
with them and watching them grow up.
Mike was also a great friend and
extremely loyal to his inner circle. His
closest boyhood friends remained at
his side for more than 60 years, calling
each other at least once every day.
Mike also had a soft heart for ani-
mals. From horses to birds to cats to
dogs, he had a gentle kindness and an
endearing love that extended beyond
the human.
Mike's hobbies were gardening, his
family, working and kibitzing with
friends and business acquaintances.
Most of all, he loved puttering around
the back yard and growing flowers to
share with family and friends.
Mike is survived by his children,
Diana Homer, Sheila Pellyk and Karen
Denny; sons-in-law, Kenneth Pellyk
and Jeffrey Denny; grandchildren, Alec
Denny, Mitch Denny, Travis Pellyk and
Avery Pellyk; brother Leonard Homer.
Memorial services were held Feb.
20 at Pacific View Memorial Park in
Corona del Mar, Calif.
