Bobbi Blitz is doing her part making every
hospice a Jewish hospice. The former nurse
is a care consultant for Seasons Hospice who
helps Jewish patients get the religious and
cultural comfort they need at the end of their
lives.
"I loved nursing, but this is the most gratifying
work I've ever done in my life," Bobbi says.
"People tell me I give so much to the families.
But really, my hospice families allow me to
help, and that is such a gift."

DR. LOUIS LELAND, 94, of Ormand
Beach, Fla., died Dec. 30, 2006. A derma-
tologist, he was in the Army for over 30
years and afterwards had a private prac-
tice in Grosse Pointe. He retired in 1976.
Dr. Leland is survived by his wife of
57 years, Ruth Leland of Ormand Beach;
son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Louis S.
and Anna-Lynn Leland; honorary son
and daughter-in-law, Jack S. and Louise
Terry; grandson, Daniel G. Leland. He
was the beloved brother of the late Dr.
Sol Leland.
Interment at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be

SYLVIA LEVINE,
90, of West
Bloomfield, formerly
of Brooklyn, N.Y.,
died Dec. 31, 2006.
She was a book-
keeper at the adver-
tising firm Saatchi &
Levine
Saatchi in New York
when she retired at age 70.
Sylvia always loved working. After
retirement, she volunteered as a reading
tutor at a Brooklyn elementary school.
She was a member of Deborah.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter
and son-in-law, Arna and Michael
Goldstein of West Bloomfield; son and
daughter-in-law, Gary and Peggy Levine
of Ridgefield, Conn.; grandchildren,
Jennifer Goldstein, Jonathan Goldstein
and his wife Robin Schwartz, and Anna
Levine. She was the beloved wife of the
late Morris Levine.
Interment at Riverside Cemetery in
Rochelle Park, N.J. Contributions may be

DR. MAX MATTES, 91, of West
Lafayette, Ind., died Dec. 31, 2006.
A radiologist, Dr. Mattes had several
offices including ones in Southfield and
Detroit. A World War II veteran, he was a
member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He
was also a member of many radiology
societies including Radiology Society of
North America.
Dr. Mattes is survived by his wife,
Lillian Mattes of West Lafayette; sons
and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jules and
Ruth Mattes of Berkeley Heights, N.J.,
Dr. Jeffrey and Amy Mattes of Princeton,
N.J., Dr. Richard and Melinda Mattes of
West Lafayette; grandchildren, Malcolm,
Vanessa, Mitchell, Darya, Rachel,
Margaret, Brian, Audrey and Matthew
Mattes; nieces and nephews, Dolly and
Aaron Friedman, Larry and Robert
Tracht, Ruth Schwartz and Howard
Simon, Barbara and Steve Kohler. He
was the beloved brother of the late Ida
Geselis, the late Lillian Tracht and the
late Helen Simon.
