Why I Like My Camp

Jamie Gildenberg, age 13, West Bloomfield:
Ever wonder what it would be like to have two different homes
and two different families? I never knew until I went to Camp
Tanuga three years ago. Some of my favorite activities at
camp are rock climbing, kayaking, wakeboarding and trapeze.
Whether I am doing activities, going to evening program or just
hanging out with my friends, camp is always a blast! Tanuga
means the world to me and it taught me to take on challenges
and to be the best person I can be. At Camp Tanuga, we really
are more than just friends ... we are family.

Emily Rosberg, age 9, West Bloomfield: -
I loved everything at camp [Tamarack] ! But my favorite thing is the Havdalah ser-

vices. I just love the songs and candlelight by the water. It's so cool!! I also like the
archery and arts and crafts (a&c). I pretty much like everything!!!! The first day I
ever got to camp, I knew I wanted to come back next year for even longer. I can't
wait until summer 07'ffiliii

Liz Rosner, age 13, West Bloomfield:
I love Wooden Acres Camp for three reasons. First it is fun. When you go to Wooden
Acres Camp, there is always something to do, whether swimming in the pool or tubing.
You do what you want to do. Second, at Wooden Acres all of the counselors are so nice
and love to have fun with whatever we are doing. Last, everybody is always happy. At
every activity, we are having fun. Oh yeah, and you probably don't know our camp direc-
tor. He is so nice and funny. This is why I love Camp Wooden Acres.

Heidi Grodman, age 6, Commerce:
Willoway Camp was awesome! I liked playing kickball,
ga-ga-ga, soccer and swimming in the big pool. Arts-
n-crafts was really fun. I loved to make bracelets out
of lanyard and string. My counselors, Michelle and
Semona, were really cool to play with. The overnights
were fantastic, escpecially the -Pirate/Treaure Hunt
one. We always ate S'mores. I put A LOT of chocolate

mallows on your face. I like this because you get extra
marshmallows. I LOVED WILLOWAY!! Everyone should go to Willoway!!

Amanda Papo, age 7, Novi:
Willoway is the best camp. I like to swim. My
swimming instructor, Emily, taught me all the
strokes. I became a very good swimmer! I got to go
to the lake and ride on the torpedo. That was my
first time on the torpedo and I loved it. The lake
is by my house. Besides swimming, I love to cook,
ride
on the go-karts and play GaGaGa. Arts and

hugest fish. Don't forget about the overnights; you
can stay up late and play with your friends. I am going there again next summer.

Rayna Tobin, age 10, West Bloomfield:
The camp I go to is Camp Willoway. It is the best camp I've ever been to!!! It's awesome!!
They have lots of fun activities, like go-carting, swimming, archery, paddle boats, fish-
ing, and art, just to name a few! One of my favorite things about camp is paddle boats
because I love to drive myself around with my friends in the big boats or by myself in
the little paddle boats. They also have great counselors at Willoway. Mine last year were
probably some of the nicest and best counselors I've had in my past five years!! That is
why I love my camp!!

Sydney Hutnik, age 10, Plymouth:
Hi, my name is Sydney Hutnik and I went to camp last
summer at Wooden Acres. At camp we went to the lake
almost every day, swimming, tubing, water-skiing and
wake boarding. We slept in tee pees and chuck wagons. My
best memory is color war. Color war is an activity in which
the whole camp participates. Everyone competes on two
different teams doing races and obstacle courses. It's very
fun because you spend the whole day concentrating on the
game and spending time with your team. And all around
you are the friends you made this summer.

From the Boys of Wooden Acres Mountainside Tepee 7:

Levi Teitel, age 10, West Bloomfield
and Max Gross, age 10, Bloomfield Hills:
Camp Tanuga is not our home-away-from-home, it IS our home. When we go to Tanuga,
it is like seeing a whole new family. It's not like we can have a one-month sleepover
with our friends at home, we can only have it at camp. Camping trips are good and bad.
They're bad because you are away from camp. They're good because you can experience
a "vacation" with your friends. We love trapeze because you get to learn from trapeze art-
ists from all around the continent. It's scary at first, but once you've gotten used to it, it is
like you are flying with Waconda, the great eagle that watches over the land.

Mitch Barnett, age 15,
Farmington Hills:
My experiences at camp have been some
of the best in my entire life. The first
time I went to Camp Tamarack was when
I was 11 years old. I met so many new
people. When I was in Levison, I met three
of my best friends, Max Corman, and
Joel Robinson and Jon Ladin from Fort
Mitch Barnett, kneeling third from left,

went on the Western Trip together. It was
a wonderful experience. We traveled through 13 different states, and we hiked well over
100 miles. My many years at Camp Tamarack have been magical.
