EMANUEL "MANNY" SULKES, 88,
of West Bloomfield, died Dec. 1, 2006.
The owner of International Building
Products for 60 years, he was still at his
desk until three weeks ago. A captain in
the U.S. Army, he served in the Aleutian
Islands.
Mr. Sulkes was a past president of the
Archives of American Art, a past president
of the Grosse Pointe Numismatic Society
and a past president of the Michigan
Oriental Art Society.
He was a 25-year member of
Birmingham Temple and he volunteered
twice a week for 10 years at William
Beaumont Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years,
Jean Sulkes of West Bloomfield; son and
daughter-in-law, Mark Sulkes and Dr.
Lihua Zhang of New Orleans; daugh-
ters and a son-in-law, Sheila Sulkes of
Chicago and Carol Sulkes and Michael
Krauss of Highland Park, Ill.; grandchil-
dren, Zoe Sulkes, Matthew, Jonathan and
Daniel Krauss; sister, Rachel Goodman
of Israel; nephew, Sanford (Shirley)
Sulkes.
Interment at Clover Hill Park

Cemetery. Contributions may be made
to the Birmingham Temple, 28611 W. 12
Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI 48334.

LOUIS L.
WEINSTEIN, 93,
of Farmington Hills,
died Nov. 21, 2006.
During World War
II, he was a member
of the Army intel-
ligence.
A graduate of
Weinstein
Detroit College of Law
in 1936, he became
partners with his brother, Milton, for 50
years at Weinstein and Weinstein.
He was also a member of Jewish War
Veterans, B'nai B'rith and Institute of
Retired Professionals.
Mr. Weinstein is survived by his
wife of 63 years, Beatrice Weinstein of
Farmington Hills; children, Suzanne
Pregerson and Frank Werblin, Jeffrey
Weinstein and Ginger Parnes of Berkley,
Calif., Elizabeth and Jay Zerwekh of

West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Jonah
and Louisa Pregerson, Rachel Zerwekh,
Matthew Zerwekh, Lyla Weinstein.
He was the loving brother of the
late Harry Weinstein, the late Milton
Weinstein, the late Pauline Gutfreund
and the late Sam Winn.
Interment at Adat Shalom Memorial
Park Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to the Louis and Beatrice Scholar
Fund at Temple Emanu-El, 14450 W. 10
Mile Road, Oak Park, MI 48237.

of Oak Park, died Nov. 29, 2006.
He is survived by his brother, Martin
Wollner of Livonia; companion, Sue

JTA — Nazi hunter Elliot Welles died of a
heart attack last week at
his home in the Bronx,
N.Y. He was 79.
The Vienna-born
Welles, a Holocaust
survivor, came to the
United States after
the war, married and 110
opened a restaurant in SU
New York City.
He began his quest to
bring Nazi criminals to justice in 1979,
starting with the SS officer who ordered
the murder of his mother.
Until his retirement in 2003, Welles
headed the Anti-Defamation League's
Nazi-hunting operations.
