How to care for your braces- part 3.

Freedman-Thune

I

oel and Barbara Freedman, formerly
of West Bloomfield, proudly announce
the engagement of their daughter
Tama to Warren Thune, son of Stanley and
Eleanor Thune of Princeton, N.J.
The bride-to-be graduated the University
of Maryland with a bachelor of arts in sec-
ondary education. She teaches high school
English in Rockville, Md.
Her fiance graduated the University of
Pennsylvania with honors and earned his
master's of business administration from
the University of Chicago. He is an executive
director of the Corporate Executive Board in
Washington, D.C.
A December wedding is planned in Delray Beach, Fla.

esides brushing, flossing is
hard but mandatory. You
can get floss threaders, but
if you can slip the floss under
the wire pretty easily that is
fine. Just so long as you can
floss between each tooth every
day. Also, it should be realized
that when under an orthodontist's
care, the patient should still
return to the dentist for routine
cleanings and maintenance.

If you have a retainer, biteplate,
or another removable appliance,
scrub them with toothpaste
to clean them each day. You
can use baking soda too, or an
effervescent denture cleaner.
With the removable appliances,
a common problem is a breakage
or loss. Common mistakes are
to wrap the appliance or retainer
in a napkin as this "hides" the
appliance in your pocket without
placing it in its case. This can
result in the plastic or acrylic
experiencing unnecessary force,
breaking easily or wires distorting.
This can cause teeth to move. As

silly as it
may seem,

temporarily

reach of the
pet. Dogs
especially love the scent of their
family or food, and can make a
snack out of your appliance.

Misplacing an appliance in its
case in a public place such as a
school can cause permanent loss.
A simple solution to assist in
return of the appliance is to put
your name and phone number
with a permanent marker on the
case. Many people participate
in contact sports when retainers
etc. are not worn and with today's
busy schedules, it is sometimes
hard to trace where the appliance
may have been lost.
