Federation Forum is a program of
the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit to connect Jews to topics relat-
ed to the economic, social and cultural
development of the local community.
Lois Shaevsky is the program chair.

Help Combat Cancer
Jane Hill, a nationally known come-
dienne, will use her experiences
with breast cancer to demonstrate
the importance of laughter as a cop-
ing mechanism. Her presentation,
"Keep Laughing to Keep Healthy:' will
include a comedy skit.
Hill will keynote Huron Valley-Sinai
Hospital and its Natalie and Manny
Charach Cancer Treatment Center's
free "Just for You" program 8:30 a.m.-
2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Edgewood
Country Club, 8399 Commerce Road
in Commerce Township. "Just for You"
provides information about cancer
detection, treatment and support
for women with cancer, their family
members and friends.
The program also will feature a
panel of Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital
experts who will provide medical
updates. A fashion show, pamper
stations (hand paraffin waxing, mini-
back massages and Reiki treatments)
and exhibits will round out the day.
A continental breakfast and lunch
are included in the free program.

Classes For Couples
Adat Shalom will offer a three-part
series of interactive, informal classes
for engaged and married couples.

and Rabbi Rachel Shere will meet with

for marriage and spousal roles, effec-

resolution. Cetner counsels individuals
and couples. Her experience includes

Advocacy In Action

The National Council of Jewish
Women Greater Detroit Section is
sponsoring a new program, in part-
nership with Michigan Hillel orga-
nizations, of advocacy education for
Jewish women ages 17-30.
"Advocacy in Action: Empowering
Young Jewish Women," will take place
in four monthly sessions, November
through February. Participants
— selected from among high school
seniors, college students and others
— will learn to empower themselves
as advocates, acquire lobbying skills
and keep themselves informed on
political and social issues.
Presenters will include Sammie
Moshenberg, NCJW director of
Washington operations; Wendy
Wagenheim, president of the Jewish
Community Council of Metropolitan
Detroit; Judy Rosenberg, NCJW-GDS
board member; Susan Herman, direc-
tor of Michigan Jewish Conference;
and state. representatives and senators.
The program will culminate in
"Lobby Day at the Capitol;' during
which participants will meet with leg-
islators in Lansing. Selected students
will attend the NCJW's Washington
Institute March 18-20 in Washington.
Advocacy in Action is supported
by a grant from the Jewish Women's
Foundation of Metropolitan Detroit.
There will be no charge to partici-
pants.
