Bloomfield Hills Andover
High School sophomore Leah
Somerville led the way with nine
medals in the girls 15-16 division,
five in individual races and four
in relays. Somerville earned gold .
medals in the 200-yard freestyle
and 400 medley relays. Her silver
medals came in the 50 butterfly,
200 freestyle, 200 medley and 400
freestyle relays. She won bronze
medals in the 50 breaststroke, 50
freestyle and 100 freestyle.
Detroit had three other swim-
mers in the same division. Abby
Schreier won gold medals in the
200 freestyle, 400 medley and 400
freestyle relays, and silver med-
als in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200
medley relay.
Lauren Weiner won gold med-
als in the 200 freestyle, 400 medley
and 400 freestyle relays. She also
won a silver medal in the 200 med-
ley relay.
Rita Yarber won gold medals
in the 50 breaststroke, 200 freestyle
and 400 medley relays, and a silver
medal in the 200 medley relay.
Madeline Mcllhon competed
in the girls 13-14 division, but she
also was a member of Detroit's
gold-medal winning girls 15-16
400 freestyle relay team. In her
own division, McIlhon won a silver
medal in the 200 freestyle relay and
a bronze medal in the 400 freestyle
relay.
All six Detroit boys competed in
the 15-16 division. Here's how they
fared:
David Devore: Bronze med-
als, 200 freestyle relay and 400
medley relay. Noah Eubanks:
Silver medal, 200 freestyle relay;
bronze medal, 400 freestyle relay.
Max Futernick: Silver medal, 200
freestyle relay; bronze medals, 200
medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Brian Kostukofsky: Silver
medal, 200 freestyle relay; bronze
medal, 400 freestyle relay. Matt
Spickler: Bronze medal, 200 free-
style relay. Michael Spickler:
Silver medal; 200 freestyle relay;
bronze medal, 400 freestyle relay.
Devore and Matt Spickler were
paired with swimmers from other
delegations in the 200 freestyle
