avid Sandler couldn't
believe it happened again.
Sandler, a member of
the JCC Detroit Maccabi Club's track
contingent at last month's Vancouver
Games, was racing to the finish line in
the boys age 15 16 110-meter hurdles
when he experienced a painful &ja
vu.
"About 75 percent of the way
through the race, I clipped a hurdle
and fell," Sandler said. "My first reac-
tion was, `Not again!' The same thing
happened to me at about the same
spot in the same race at last year's
Maccabi Games."
Despite his tumbles to the track,
Sandler won a medal in both races.
The Oak Park resident earned a sil-
ver in 2005 in Richmond, Va., and a
bronze in Vancouver.
"There was no way I was going
to win the race last year, but I had
a chance this year if I hadn't fallen:'
Sandler said. This was Sandler's fourth
and final year of, Maccabi competi-
tion. He ran for veteran Detroit track
coach Joel Kashdan in Houston and
Washington, D.C. before traveling to
Richmond and Vancouver.

Sandler also earned a gold medal in
the 4x100 relay, and bronze medals in
