.._ .1 Dear

part about fat
and % Daily Value. Help! Joan.

For late-breaking news:

nswer (continued from last
week): Dear Joan, Last
time we discussed fat con-
sumption guidelines and how to
convert the % Daily Value (% DV)
listed on a Nutrition Facts food
label to your actual % DV.

It's important to remember that %
DV is a per serving measurement
of a particular nutrient, based on
a 2000 calorie (cal) per day diet.
After first adjusting your % DV
for your actual caloric intake (as
we did last time), you must then
multiply your actual % DV for that
nutrient by the number of
—; servings you are consuming.

The listed serving size on a
jar of Skippy Super Chunk
(SSC) peanut butter is 2
y\ i-,) tbsp.; so, if you consume
/ 3 tbsp. of SSC, you will
need to multiply your
actual % DV by 1.5
servings (3 tbsp. -±- 2 tbsp.
= 1.5 servings).

)

Putting it all together (as-
suming a 1500 calorie per
day diet and 25% DV total fat (190
cal) in one serving of SSC): 1500
cal ± 2000 cal = .75; 25% DV .75
= 33% DV (actual); 33.33% DV x
1.5 servings = 50% DV total fat,
or one-half (1/2) of an entire day's
recommended fat from only 285
(19%) of your 1500 calories. I hope
this helps answer your question.
