Young Activist
Sarah Lerman-Sinkoff, 15, of
West Bloomfield is planning
on joining the April 30 rally in
Washington, D.C., against the
genocide in Darfur.
A member of Habonim Dror,
a socialist Zionist youth move-
ment, Sarah is an experienced
social activist who also attended °
the Washington rally in support
of Israel in 2002. She says her
parents, Drs. Ruth Lerman and
Mark Sinkoff, instilled activism
in her and her brother, Dov, who
is on a Habonim program in
Israel.
She attended an informational
meeting about the situation in
Darfur on Sunday at the Jewish
Community Center in Oak Park
with her father. She was among
only a few young people there.
"I think it's important — we
as Jews have a responsibility to aid
suffering people; we as people
have a responsibility," she said. "I
knew a fair amount about Darfur
and I do my best to - educate my
classmates and friends and to
spread awareness"

School freshman was moved
Sunday to sit down and hand-
write a passionate, articulate let-
ter to President George W. Bush;
urging action from the U.S. to
help stop the genocide.
She ended by writing: "The
United States has always valued
its moral fiber. Please, my people
were let down 50 years ago in
the Holocaust, don't let it happen
again."
"I know the president won't
read it," Sarah said, "but it didn't
take much time out of my day
and I thought it was important."

'Dog Wizard' On TV
Vladae Roytapel of Troy, a respected dog trainer in the former
Soviet.Union, has established a reputation here as the "Dog
Wizard;' the man who turns even the most troublesome dogs into
obedient household pets.
Despite his heavy Russian accent, when Roytapel speaks, dogs
certainly listen. Humans, too, learn his tricks of the trade.
"If you treat your dog as ehuman, your dog will treat you as a
doe he says.
Now, Roytapel will work his magic on weekly segments on
FOX2 News at a a.m. on Wednesdays. The program, called Dog
Wizard, will discuss the health and behavior of household dogs.
On the show, the charismatic Roytapel will tackle tough cus-
tomers — dogs that rule the roost and are likely to be ousted by
their families if they don't shape up. Maybe your dog qualifies?
FOX2 is planning to sponsor a contest for the worst dog in Metro
Detroit to face off with Roytapel. Stay tuned for details.
