be described as happy
campers — literally. The 26-
year-olds, who plan to marry
next fall, were high school stu-
dents when they met 10 years
ago.
Despite Lindsay living in the
Detroit area and Dan being in
Montreal, they hit it off quickly
as Camp Tamarack teen staffers

Actually, that first connection
at Tamarack was serendipitous:
Both had experiences at other
camps and wanted to have a
different camping experience
that summer. Lindsay had pre-
viously attended a camp near
Charlevoix, while Dan had gone
to a camp near Montreal.
"Both of us wanted to do
something different that sum-
mer so we decided to join the
teen service staff at Tamarack:'
Lindsay said.

Dan learned about Camp
Tamarack from some of his
older brother's friends in
Montreal. They became good
friends that first summer but it
wasn't until the next summer,
serving as counselors, that "we
realized that we had a definite
connection," Lindsay said.
They spent four summers
together working as counselors.
When both were 17, they started
seriously dating, although it
began as a long-distance rela-
tionship. Lindsay was attend-
ing the University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor and Dan was
at Concordia University in
Montreal.
They took turns traveling
back and forth by car, train or
plane every four to six weeks.
Two years ago, Dan accepted a
job transfer to Chicago, where •
Lindsay was already working.
