'New Plays' at JET
Final performances of JET's Festival of New Plays in
Staged Readings will take place 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9,
at the Aaron DeRoy Theatre at the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield and 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 10,
at JCC in Oak Park.
Included is Der Garten Im Schrank (The Garden In the
Closet) by Warren Rosenzweig, inspired by the author's
deeply personal experience with prejudice in rural folk
and the challenges of coming to terms with unresolved
•
injustice. In the play, the skeletons in the closet of an
unhappy rural family spring to life when a guest from faraway becomes too familiar with the
hidden background of his hosts.
Appearing for discussion following the performances will be playwright Warren Rosenzweig,
artistic director of the Jewish Theater of Austria. He is an American who founded this theatre
in Vienna with a fascinating story to tell.
The Day Brando Died will be presented on the same bill, a short comedy by Lawrence
Dukore who will fly in from New York City for this performance as well. DuKore comes with a
rich history of both television and theatre play production.
Performances are followed by a discussion with an open discussion with audienCe, play-
wrights, actors and directors. A $5 donation is requested for admission for non JET subscribers.
