Jay: "I became a BBYO adviser in
1997, and I am now approaching
my ninth year."

How did Akiva become
the site?
Jay: "Outside of my professional
career [as alegibnal property
manager], I have also been a lock-
smith for 15 years. My mom
worked for Akiva for many years
as their controller.
"While working for [locksmith]
Ray Sinai [in the late 1980s], I
began to do much of Akiva's lock-
smithing and security work. It is
still my responsibility today. They
do not pay for any labor. It is my
way of helping out the school and
the Jewish community.
"After a scheduling conflict at
the JCC, Akiva welcomed us to use
their gym at no charge. It contin-
ues to be very generous of them."
