A Higher Calling

For the third consecutive year, Yeshiva Beth Yehudah is flying high for donors.
The Orthodox day school is selling frequent flier PowerMiles. A donation of $100
or more results in at least 500 miles on the airline of the donor's choice. ,
The program is part of the Yeshiva's effort to raise $3.5 million in scholarship
money for disadvantaged students. Rabbi Eli Mayerfeld, who heads the school, said
the program has raised several thousand dollars in new of increased gifts in each of
the last two years.
Also, any increase in gifts over last year will be matched by the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit as part of a challenge fund.
The offer, part of the school's Chanukah fund-raiser, will continue through March
31. For information, call the Yeshiva, (248) 557-6750.

Katrina Aid Includes Camp

As the Gulf Coast continues its disaster relief efforts, the Foundation for Jewish
Camping, the umbrella organization of more than 130 nonprofit Jewish
overnight camps in North America, is planning ahead to the reconstruction
phase, with the announcement of an emergency scholarship fund for Jewish
youth affected by the hurricanes called "Habayita: Coming Home to Jewish
Camp."
The nonprofit organization estimates about 400 Jewish families who tradi-
tionally send their children to summer camps have been economically devastat-
ed by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The scholarship fund is to benefit these fam-
ilies.
The goal is $1.5 million, which will provide up to 400 children with a summer
camp experience next year. No part of the fund will be used for administrative
costs.
To launch the fund, the Foundation is collaborating with the Jewish Children's
Regional Services (JCRS), a social work agency and charitable fund based in
Metairie, La., that assists Jewish youth in the Southern states including Alabama,
Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.
For more about the scholarship fund, log on to www.jewishcamping.org , write
to the Foundation directly at questions@jewishcamping.org , or contact Ned
Goldberg at the JCRS at (513) 254-7822 or jcrs_south@yahoo.com .
