WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE AN ARCHITECT
DESIGN YOUR NEW HOME????

1 Architects' expertise is in design,

and finding the most appropriate
solutions, to realize the full poten-
tial of a project.

2 Real benefits can be realized from
something simple as helping you
avoid an ill-suited layout, better
space utilization (reducing costs)
or explaining an option- or impli-
cation you hadn't been aware of.
3. Architects start a design project by
carefully considering all relevant
factors, such as your particular
property, your specific needs,
goals and budgets, local bylaws,
potential construction costs and so
on.
4. Initial design options are explored,
evaluated, and reviewed with the
client. This allows you to make

quotes.

ing you avoid trouble spots and

New York/JTA — A Saudi prince
donated $40 million to finance
Islamic studies at Georgetown and
Harvard universities. Prince Alwaleed
bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud's gifts
come amid growing concern over.
Saudi influence in American educa-
tion.
JTA has revealed that Bin Talal is
discussing funding the Middle East
Policy Council, a Washington think
tank that publishes a teaching manual
for middle and high school students.
The manual about Islam and the Arab
world has been blasted by critics for
distorting history and propagating
bias about Israel, America and Islam.

Wall Project OK'd

Jerusalem/JTA — Israel plans to
develop the Western Wall. The Cabinet
approved plans to make Judaism's
most important prayer site and its
adjoining plaza, more accessible to
worshipers and tourists.
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said
the project would "lead to more fami-
lies and young people visiting the
Western Wall and connecting with
our roots. Approximately 5 million
people visit the Western Wall every
year. I would like to see a significant
increase"

'Rabbicops' Probed

Jerusalem/JTA — Hundreds of Israeli
policemen are believed to be obtain-
ing rabbinical ordination to boost
their salaries. Citing Justice Ministry
sources, Ha'aretz reported in a week-
end expose that as many as 600
policemen have taken courses for the
Orthodox clergy so they could receive
$430 monthly stipends.
According to the newspaper, some
of the "rabbicops" are openly secular,
and the sages administering the ordi-
nation courses have been known to
allow their students to abbreviate the
studies for the sake of convenience.
Police spokesmen declined comment
on the affair, citing a probe already
under way.

Berlin/JTA — A German Jewish
leader has called on Germany to
break off all ties with Iran after the
latest inflammatory remarks by the
Iranian president.
Paul Spiegel, president of the
Central Council of Jews in Germany,

told the Netzeitung news agency that
Chancellor Angela 'Merkel should
sever ties with Iran after its president,
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, suggested
that Germany and Austria create a
Jewish state on their own territory.
Ahmadinejad also cast doubt on
the Holocaust. Though she did not
respond directly to Spiegel's remarks,
Merkel called the remarks "completely
unacceptable"' and said she would not
tolerate threats to Israel's existence.
She made the comments during a
meeting Dec. 8 in Berlin with French
Prime Minister Jacques Chirac, who
joined her in condemning
Ahmadinejad's remarks. Germany's
new foreign minister, Frank-Walter
Steinmeier, also condemned the
Iranian president's remarks. •

Aumann's Nobel

Jerusalem/JTA — Robert Aumann, a
professor at the Hebrew University of
Jerusalem, received his Nobel Prize in
economics. Aumann, an expert on
game theory and conflict resolution,
was honored at the annual ceremony
in Stockholm on Saturday along with
co-winner Professor Thomas
Schelling from the University of
Maryland.
"Wars and other conflicts are among
the main sources of human misery,"
Aumann said, and they have been
with us "ever since the dawn of civi-
lization. Nothing has been more con-
stant in history than war."

No Israel Mention

New York/JTA — Arab states are try-
ing to block the mention of Israel in a
U.N. resolution on the problem of
arable land turning into desert.
The resolution recognizes 2006 as a
year devoted to examining deserts .
and the problem of desertification. A
handful of member states, led by
Syria and Iran, fought efforts to
include mention of an upcoming
Israeli conference on desertification,
according to sources at Israel's U.N.
mission.
Israel's U.N. mission has circulated
an amendment to the measure that
mentions the Jewish state. Several
countries — notably the Latin
Americans - said Israel should not be
treated differently than other coun-
tries. The United States is also back-
ing Israel's wish to be included.
