Originally a speech therapist,
she became a bookkeeper and
controller in the telemarketing
industry and after her retire-
ment she became a book seller
and led book

very active

Women. At the

Arts, where was an active mem-
ber and volunteer, she assisted
with the Art to the Schools pro-
gram and was a docent for over
10 years. She volunteered at the
DIA gift shop and organized the
Day Away program. In addition,
she was a member of Temple
Shir Shalom.

Nov. 25, 2005, in La Jolla, Calif.,
at age 80.
Born and educated in Detroit,
Mr. Potiker served in the Army
Air Corps during World War II.
He later earned bachelor of arts
and law degrees at Wayne State
University.
After several years of law
practice, he and his wife, Sheila,
founded Entertainment
Publications Inc., the world's
leading publisher of promotion-
al discount programs. During
his 30-year tenure as president
and CEO, the company became
a public corporation and
Entertainment discount books
became a household word in
more than 120 geographic areas
in the United States, Canada and
abroad providing introductory

HAROLD H. GORDON, 80, of
Miami, Fla., and West
Bloomfield, died Nov. 23, 2005.
He went to Detroit Central High
School. When he was 18, he
joined the Army and served in
the Philippines during World
War II. He was a driver of an
amphibious vehicle that was
used for landings on the islands
in the South Pacific. His rank
was corporal.
After the war, he went to the
Detroit College of Law on the GI
bill and received his bachelor of
law degree in the early 1950s.
While he was in law school, he
sold houses. With Louis Begin,
he started the Gordon-Begin
Company, which became his
life's occupation. The company
built houses in Livonia
Michigan and then apartments
in Madison Heights. Eventually
Potiker turned his entrepreneur-
ial spirit to philanthropy in both
Detroit and San Diego. Among
his accomplishments were the
establishment of the Hughes and
Sheila Potiker Theater at the La
Jolla Playhouse, the Potiker
Family Senior Residence, the
transitional Hillel House at
University of California at San
Diego and the Cultural Arts wing
of the San Diego Jewish
Community Center. He also
served on the boards of a num-
' ber of artistic and charitable
organizations and was an active
contributor to many including
the Jewish federations of Detroit
and San Diego.
Mr. Potiker is survived by wife,
Sheila; daughter and son-in-law,
Joni Potiker Brown and Michael;
sons and daughters-in-law
Lowell Potiker and Julie, and
Brian Potiker and Gwen, all of
southern California; seven
grandchildren.

Mr. Gordon endowed a schol-
arship fund at the Detroit
College of Law for an annual
need based scholarship for a
minority student. He con-

Gordon of Denver, Colo.; daugh-
ters, Patti Gordon of Miami and
Wendy Koenigsberg of Miami;
grandchildren, Benjamin
Gordon, Windy (Chris) Cook
and Daniel Koenigsberg; broth-
ers and sisters-in-law, Dr.
