Divas In
Ann Arbor

Several divas with Jewish connec-
tions will grace the stage of the
Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor
this weekend.
When Cyndi Lauper performs 8
p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, she'll be joined
by two special guests —both
Jewish: Sandra Bernhard and Jill
Sobule. Flint-born Bernhard plans
a set highlighting her talents as a
comedian, actress and singer. A
pop singer with a social con-
science, Sobule ("I Kissed a Girl"),
who often includes World War II
references in her songs, could per-
form "Attie,' in which she imag-
ines hiding out as Anne Frank,
asking, "Would you have hidden
me in your attic?"
Then, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4,
Carly Simon will perform songs
from her extensive catalogue of
original music, as well as some
songs from her Top 10 release,
Moonlight Serenade. Simon is the

daughter of Jewish publisher
Richard Simon, a co-founder of
Simon and Shuster. She has said:
"My face is more acceptable in a
way now than when I first came
on the scene, because I am part
black. My mother's mother was
black. I'm Jewish, black, Cuban
and French."
Opening for Simon will be her
children with former husband-
musician James Taylor.
Ben Taylor and Sally Taylor
each will perform individually, as
well as with their mother during
the concert.
Tickets for Friday's concert are
$45. Tickets for Sunday's concert
are $79.50. Tickets are available at

Brief Musical Notes

Hot singer Christina Aguilera,
24, married Jewish record exec-
utive Jordan Bratman, 28, on
Nov. 20. Some sources describe
them being wed in a "tradition-
al Jewish ceremony." We very
much doubt the bride convert-
ed to Judaism, but we maybe
proved wrong.
Early poems by Bob Dylan
(circa 1960) were among items
sold at a big rock memorabilia
auction held in New York last
month.
