Flies 500 m es on a sin

AO.

What are some of your other vol-
unteer activities?
"I recently joined the board of

directors of the Reggie McKenzie
Foundation, an organization that
works with Detroit-area youth.
We help prepare them for the
future by promoting self-esteem,
self-confidence and academic
achievement. I call them 'my
kids. I love them.
"My husband, Cody, started the
Bear Hug Foundation in 2000,
and we're both very involved with
that. It provides opportunities for
children who are at-risk, under-
privileged or have special needs
to spend time at Camp Tanuga.
Last summer, we had campers
from JARC and the Friendship
Circle. They had a great time, and
we loved having them."

What are your plans for the
future?

"I tend to be motivated by what
affects me. While I was doing
research for the adoption, I came
across some information on
`human trafficking' [abuse of
girls and boys by prostitution
rings] that affected me greatly. I'd
like to get more involved with a
cause related to that issue.
"I also hope to spend more
time with the kids from the
Reggie McKenzie Foundation [a
Highland Park-based nonprofit,
which helps build self-esteem in
youth through athletic and aca-
demic achievement]. And next
year, I'd like to do another afford-
able family fund-raiser similar to
`Pets 'n Pepperoni.'"

Mom and dad don't seem like themselves lately.9

Since mom and dad moved to The
Heritage retirement community they just
don't seem like themselves. They're
laughing more, they're always busy and
the twinkle in dad's eye is back.

Isn't that great?!!
