tion dinner will be held
Monday evening, Nov.
7, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. This year's
inductees are Sam
Babcock, Oscar
Feldman and Frank
Goldberg.
In addition, three
recent high school ath-
letes will be honored as Babcock
athletes and scholar-
athletes of the year by
the Jewish News, and
former Detroit Lion
Robert Porcher will
receive the Michigan
Jewish Sports
Foundation Alvin Foon
Humanitarian Award.
Feldman

Oscar Feldman has
been part of the Detroit
Pistons since Bill
Davidson purchased
the team in 1974.
Feldman was actively
involved in the pur-
chase and has been a
minority owner for 31
years. He has held posi- Goldberg

manager and legal
counsel and represents
the Pistons at NBA
board of governors
meetings.
Frank Goldberg was
an all-around athlete at
Detroit Mumford High
School, starring in foot- Porcher
ball and baseball. He
was a football standout
at Central Michigan University
from 1962-1965 as the starting
middle linebacker and tight end.
During the '63 and '64 seasons,
he was voted All-Mid-American
Conference. In 1965, he was
drafted by Cleveland Browns of

the National Football League.
The late Sam Babcock was a
graduate of Detroit Central High
School, where he was both All-
City and All-State in football in
1924. In 1957, Harvey Barcus of
the Detroit News named
Babcock to his all-time
Detroit high school team.
Babcock went on to
play three years for Coach
Fielding H. Yost at the
University of Michigan,
alongside quarterback
Benny Friedman, as the
starting left halfback in
1925, '26 and '27.
Three high school ath-
letes who graduated this
year will also be honored
at the dinner. Rebecca
Nyquist and Seth Sanders
have been named Jewish
News High School
Athletes of the Year, and
Sanders and Meredith
Milstein will receive Bill
Hertz Memorial
Achievement Awards.
Nyquist now attends
Princeton University. At
Cranbrook Kingswood
High School in
Bloomfield Hills last sea-
son, she earned swim-
ming All-American hon-
ors in the 100-yard back-
stroke, 400 freestyle relay
and 200 medley relay. She
earned four varsity letters
in swimming and was a
Michigan High School
Athlete of the Year nomi-
nee.
Sanders is a graduate of
Ann Arbor Pioneer High
School and now attends
Ohio State University. His
18 home runs last spring broke
the Pioneer baseball team record
and led the state. His team was
runner-up in the state champi-
onships and Sanders was named
first team All-State and to the
2005 Dream Team.
