to the Torah as a bat mitzvah
Saturday, Sept. 3,
at Temple Shir
Shalom. She is the
daughter of Laura
Varon Brown and
Jeffrey Brown and
the sister of Molly
and Jacob. Proud
grandparents are
Minnie Brown,
Brown
Charles and Carol
Otto, Shaaron
Varon. She is also
the granddaughter of the late Jerrold
Brown, the late Myrtle Otto and the
late Jerry Varon. Great-grandparents
are the late Saul and Marion Dicken.
Emma is an honor student at
Berkshire Middle School in
Birmingham. Because of her personal
tenacity and spirit, she is dedicated to
helping children with chronic disease
and injury. Following her bat mitzvah,
Emma will donate her hair to Locks
of Love and will raise money for
camps for children with severe burns.

Bloomfield will become a bat mitzvah
at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek
Southfield
Saturday, Sept. 3.

Samantha is an honor student at
Orchard Lake Middle School in West
Bloomfield. Her mitzvah projects
include working at Camp Betman and
Beth Hayeled, organizing a fund-rais-
er to benefit the Leukemia Research
Foundation and volunteering through
the Friendship Circle each week.

Daniel Stephen Elkus, son of David
and Dr. Elizabeth Elkus and brother
of Audrey, will celebrate his bar mitz-
vah Sunday, Sept. 4, at Congregation

West Bloomfield,
B'nai Israel Center.
His proud grand-
parents are Estelle
and Philip Elkus,
Lillian and Arthur
Goodman. He is
also the grandson
of the late Dorothy Elkus
Goodman.
Daniel's mitzvah project included
delivering toys for kids at Alyn
Hospital in Jerusalem as well as volun-
teering and raising money for
ROPARD, a charity that studies and
treats retinopathy of prematurity. He
attends Cranbrook Boy's Middle
School in Bloomfield Hills.

Tyler Isaac Friedman, son of Susan
Friedman and the late Kenneth
Friedman and
brother of Starr and
Zachary, was called
to the Torah as a
bar mitzvah Friday,
Aug. 26, at Temple
Shir Shalom. His
proud grandparents
are Cyrille Goode
and Eileen and
Murray Friedman.
His is also the
grandson of the late
Jason Goode.
Tyler attends Berkshire Middle
School in Beverly Hills. He proudly
represented Detroit in St. Paul, play-
ing tennis at the JCC Maccabi games
this past month.
