he steering committee for Shir Hadash ("New Sounds in
Jewish Music from the Michigan Conservative Movement")
will hold a Summer's End Music Jam 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Aug.
28, in the lower-level function room at the JARC Building,
30301 Northwestern Hwy., Farmington Hills.
This informal get-together will feature musical net-
working and sharing by people of various congrega-
tions interested in having more participatory, spiritu-
• al music at their respective synagogues. These music
enthusiasts can get better acquainted, learn what
each shul's "new-music lovers" are up to, offer music
demos and jam.
There will be no charge. Light refreshments will be served.

he Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit will hold
its annual Itsa Mitzva Day on
Sunday, Oct. 9, from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
Volunteers will meet for orienta-
tion and a light kosher lunch at the
Max M. Fisher Federation Building,
6735 Telegraph Road in Bloomfield
Township. Immediately following
lunch, participants will be directed
to agencies and work sites in the
community. Assignments will
include visiting residents in Jewish
Apartments, working at a food bank,
sukkah building, gardening and
other assistance with community
projects as needed.
A program of Federation's
Volunteer Network, Itsa Mitzva Da
is sponsored by the Federation'
Women's Campaign and Education
Department. Co-chairs are Joanne
Aronovitz and Stefany Freeman; wit
Sherri Ketai and Sarah Krasnick
serving as advisers.
To cover the cost of lunch and sup-
plies, Federation is requesting a sug-
gested $10 donation per family.
Volunteers are asked to sign up no
