onica Sklar; whose artistic
specialty has been the
world of fashion, is
replacing Sylvia Nelson as director of
the Janice Charach Epstein Gallery
at the Jewish Community. Center in
West Bloomfield.
Sklar, 28, of Ferndale, takes charge
as Nelson retires to pursue personal
artistic projects.
"My intention is to keep the
gallery at the high level of prestige it
has attained and help it continue to
grow," says Sklar, who has been a
curator, instructor, fashion writer
and stylist. "The gallery space is very
grand and well thought out, and I'm
hoping to bring more young viewers
in to experience it all."
Sklar, who holds a bachelor's
degree in fashion design and mer-
chandising from Wayne State
University in Detroit and a master's
degree in apparel, textiles and mer-
